Ulyanovsk's Karamzin Airport to have flights to three Moscow airports
They will become available after reconstruction of the aerodrome complex. The Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District District Mikhail Babich, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov and the head of the region Sergey Morozov visited the facility on 22 September.
The checked a runway of the airport and discussed completion of its reconstruction and arrangement of a Russian border checkpoint.
"As soon as the airport opens, we and Aeroflot will organize two flights per week to Moscow airports "Domodedovo" and "Sheremetyevo" and three to "Vnukovo". According to the forecasts, in 2018, the passenger traffic will increase by 70 thousand people", - Sergey Morozov emphasized.
According to Sergey Krasnov, the rector of the Ulyanovsk Civil Aviation Institute named after the Chief Marshal B.P. Bugaev, reconstruction of an artificial runway, taxiways and aprons has been completed under the Federal Target Program "Development of Transport System of Russia". Construction of a runway supervisory unit and water and wastewater treatment facilities is underway. The runway's length is 3100 meters, which corresponds with the new international standards. This will allow to accept practically any types of aircrafts. It is planned that the airport will have opened by the end of November 2017.
In addition, preparations for establishment of the Russian border checkpoint are underway at the airport. It is supposed to start working later this year. Next, it is planned to launch international flights from this airport. One of the priority directions is China.
The Government of the region carries out all necessary measures for development of infrastructure of the Ulyanovsk's Karamzin Airport since 2010. Over this period, reconstruction of the air terminal's building has been carried out. Now it is a modern and technology-savvy facility, which provides comfortable and safe conditions for work with passengers. Now, the capacity of the air terminal complex totals 240 passengers per hour.
