Center for organ and tissue transplantation started work in the Ulyanovsk region
On 12 April, the Governor Sergey Morozov examined results of repairs carried out in the first pavilion of the regional center for specialized types of medical care. He and the management of the hospital and the relevant agency also discussed the possibility to improve the range of hi-tech medical services.
The event was attended by members of the government and Legislative Assembly of the Ulyanovsk region, as well as representatives of the Territorial Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund and the Research Center of Fundamental and Applied Problems of Bioecology and Biotechnology named after. I.N. Ulyanov.
“Analyzing possible ways for development of regional medicine, we understand that increase in the overall availability of hi-tech medical services is the vital strategic direction. In addition, as far as treatment of socially important diseases and pathologies is concerned, high-tech medical care is the only effective method. This sphere can be seen in two successfully working centers for treatment of cardiovascular diseases and in the field of obstetric aid at the perinatal center "Mama". Today we have set ourselves an ambitious task to launch in the region the project on transplantology at its full capacity. Introduction of such medical technologies will also help us to complete President’s assignments to improve life expectancy and the quality of life of the population”, - the Governor emphasized.
By order of the head of the region, about 7.5 million rubles will be invested from the regional budget into implementation of the project on transplantation of kidneys in 2018. In total, five operations of this type will be performed.
The problem of development of transplantological help provided to the population of the Ulyanovsk region is the key issue of concern today because there are 440 patients in the region who have stage five chronic kidney disease and receive dialysis treatment.
“This is the first time when this type of hi-tech medical care will be provided in our region. Today we have submitted a programme for development of the transplantological help to the population of the Ulyanovsk region. We have been working on it for two years. The center already has an operating theater, where in the future surgeries will be performed on both the donor and the recipient. Over a relatively short period of time we have done a great job to create a full-featured transplantation center at the establishment. We have received the necessary license documentation to perform removal, storage and transportation of organs and tissues in stationary conditions. We have also developed cooperation with the Pedagogical University in the sphere of laboratory support and have ensured access to all medicaments, expendable materials, and surgical tools necessary for carrying out operations. This also includes medical supplies for therapy provided during hospitalization. I would also like to mention that the quality of life of the patient after renal transplantation is much better in comparison with the one after hemodialysis”, - said Svetlana Suvorova, the head physician of the Ulyanovsk Regional Clinical Center of Specialized Types of Medical Care named after the Honored Doctor of Russia E.M. Chuchkalov.
In 2017, surgeons performed operation on renal transplantation with the assistance of local experts in the center of V.I.Shumakov Federal Research Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs. The donor was a 56-year-old woman who has given the kidney to her 29-year-old daughter. The operation was successful.
“As of today we have trained the stuff. Experts were present during the first renal transplantation carried out at the Ulyanovsk region and learned about the used practices from their federal colleagues. Technical facilities necessary to carry out researches both before transplantation and during the postoperative period is ready. We have studied all possible methods and features of transplantation that will help us avoid rejection of organs”, - said Elena Antonova, the director of the Research Center of Fundamental and Applied Problems of Bioecology and. Biotechnology of the Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University named after. I.N. Ulyanov.
Rashid Abdullov, the Minister of Health, Family and Social Well-Being, has noted that the center will provide medical care to the population on quotas from regional and federal budgets. The next operation involving transplantation will be carried out in May 2018. In 2019, it is planned to carry out ten operations, and by 2021 the number of surgical interventions will have increased up to forty. In the nearest future, a working group will be created that will supervise activities of the center for organ and tissue transplantation, as well as development of transplantological help in the Ulyanovsk region.
