Ulyanovsk region welcomed more than 50 thousand fans of the FIFA World Cup 2018
Representatives of the tourism industry have summed up results of work for organization of reception of tourists from the fan category.
Upon the initiative of the Governor Sergey Morozov, the project "Ulyanovsk - the Center of Hospitality for the 2018 FIFA World Cup" was implemented in the region. As a result of active work, 90-100% of rooms were booked in hotels of the Ulyanovsk region. During the FIFA World Cup, Ulyanovsk was visited by about 50 thousand tourists; among them there were 5087 foreign guests from Iran, Australia, Colombia, Austria, the Republic of South Africa, the USA, the UAE, Tunisia, Canada, Great Britain, Mexico, Panama, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Thailand, Belgium, Brazil, Peru, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Japan and other countries of the world.
Facilities of the hotel industry have increased their revenue by up to 200%, and public catering ones – by up to 100%.
“During the month of the World Cup, the revenue from delivered services is estimated at 600 million rubles, which makes 30% of the total amount received in 2017. This sum included hotel services, food, tour packages, and excursions. The region was visited by fans from more than 25 countries, and their reception in Ulyanovsk became an effective method for promotion of the region, its cultural and investment potential”, - noted Yulia Skoromolova, the Director of the Agency for Tourism of the Ulyanovsk region.
For comfortable stay of foreign and Russian guests, Ulyanovsk has re-structured city museums and ensured their collaboration with interpreters. Training of English-, Spanish-, Persian-, German-, Arab- and French speaking volunteers was carried out.
“Museum complex of the Lenin Memorial was visited by more than two thousand guests from 11 countries. While there were many foreign tourist groups simultaneously, it was decided to involve students of Ulyanovsk higher education institutions into translation activities. The museum complex was also visited by Russian football fans from Kazan, Samara, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kirov, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Salekhard, Sevastopol, and Kaliningrad”, - said Marina Uraltseva, Deputy Director for museum activities of OGAUK "Lenin Memorial".
According to the regional Agency for Tourism, cooperation with foreign tour operators will continue after the World Cup. An agreement with the largest tour operator of Iran will be active for the next three years and can be prolonged.
In addition, by the decision of the President Vladimir Putin, owners of Fan ID, a passport for fans, will be able to come to Russia without a visa until the end of 2018.
