“We are grateful to organizers for the opportunity to hold this event here. There are 48 literary institution in the region including Ulyanovsk Region Council of Young Writers. All of us share a common love for literature. Everyone recognizes its lasting value; and not only the one from the aesthetic point of view, but also from the educational and moral ones. We pay particular attention to support of literary creativity and problems of reading. Since 2014, we have been implementing the Russia Is Famous for its Names project ("Imenami slavitsya Rossiya"). Such projects as Time to Read ("Vremya chitat"), 12 Simbirsk Lterary Apostles ("12 simbirskih literaturnyh apostolov"), Karamzin Readings ("Karamzinskie chteniya"), and Read, the Province ("Chitaj, guberniya") have become well-known brands of the region. Next year we are planning to launch a Bookstall of Ulyanovsk Writers, which will become a special place to carry out real-life communication with interesting people. We are also going to organize Ulyanovsk House of Writers, in the memorial house of Dmitry Minayev, a Simbirsk writer; and in June 2019, we will hold the All-Russian festival of large-volume magazines "Volzhskaya Pristan". We will have a lot of interesting work", - the head of the region said.
The list of important guests will include Sergey Filatov (President of the Fund of Socio-Economic and Intellectual Programs), Vladimir Grigoriev (Deputy Director of Federal Agency for Press and Mass Media (Rospechat)), Andrey Kovalenko (head of the department for implementation of youth programmes of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo)), and Alexey Varlamov (a writer, the winner of the national award "Big Book", the acting rector of A.M. Gorky Literature Institute).
“I would like to thank the Simbirsk, which is rich with talents, for the opportunity to carry out this forum. When we announced the Year of Literature and started observing what was going on in regions of the country. By creating a special programme called Literary Map of Russia ("Literaturnaya karta Rossii"), Ulyanovsk became an unquestionable winner and received the Literary Leader. The reading infrastructure is well developed here and is actively supported by aspiring authors and masters of literature. Ulyanovsk Publishing House is considered one of the leaders of the domestic printing industry” - Vladimir Grigoriev said.
According Sergey Filatov, the organizer of the forum and President of the Fund of Socio-Economic and Intellectual Programs, this year experts will give lectures and run master classes not only at the regional center but also in municipal units, which are also really interested in literature. Over several days they will visit Dimitrovgrad, Cherdakli, Inza, Karsun, Sengiley, Novoulyanovsk and Surskoye.
“Sergey Ivanovich, thank you very much for inviting us to hold another forum in the region. This is a unique place; if Moscow is the capital of Russia and St. Petersburg is the capital of culture, then the Simbirsk region is the capital of literature. I would like to express my gratitude for preparation for the event that your team has carried out. This year, we have received 563 applications from young authors from 73 regions of Russia, the CIS countries and abroad; we selected 140 people among them. Following the results of the forum, heads of master classes will recommend the most active participants to publish their works in the literary collection "New Writers" and to provide them with grants of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation; and the best works will be released as separate books. For the first time, we will use special characteristics that will help Literary Institute choose young people who will study in our educational institution”, - Sergey Filatov noted.
XVIII International Forum of Young Writers from Russia, the CIS and Abroad will take place until 22 September and is organized with assistance of the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation, Sergey Filatov's Fund of Socio-Economic and Intellectual Programs, Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs and the Ministry of Art and Cultural Policy of the Ulyanovsk region.
“The Ulyanovsk region was recognized as the Russian region who reads the most in 2015. Over many years, it has handed out the I.A. Goncharov and the N.N. Blagov awards; it has also carried out thematic events such as Regional Day of Reading ("Oblastnoj den chteniya") and Present your Child with a Book ("Podari rebyonku knigu"). Since 2016, there has been a successful competition among municipal units - City that Reads the Most. District that Reads the Most ("Samyj chitayushchij gorod. Samyj chitayushchij rajon"). We are really happy that our region hosts the forum this year. Its participants will receive the necessary advice from experts, and the opportunity to talk to them is invaluable. I am sure that the experience received from master classes and round tables discussions will allow young people to improve their skills”, - emphasized Evgeny Sidorov, Acting Minister of Art and Cultural Policy of the region.
