Ulyanovsk region has completed installation of the second wind farm

Installation works on construction of wind turbines have been completed at the venue in Cherdaklinsky District. Fourteen wind generators with the capacity of 3.6 MW have been mounted.

“Through alternative power engineering we will be able to reduce both our dependence on production of hydrocarbons and the impact on environment, as well as to diversify economy and to increase the share of high-tech industries quickly. This is the most important strategic priority for development of our state and our region. At the beginning of 2018, the country's first industrial wind farm with the capacity of 35 MW was put into operation in the Ulyanovsk region. Construction of the second 50 MW wind farm started in summer, and now we have completed its installation. Wind turbines of the new park will start producing energy in the first half of 2019”, – the head of the region Sergey Morozov noted.

Vestas, a Danish company, became the supplier of components for the Ulyanovsk wind farm. It was also selected as a global technological partner of the Fortum-RUSNANO Wind Energy Development Fund, which carry out construction of the facility.

“Installation of wind driven generators is an important stage in implementation of the project of UK "Vetroehnergetika" in the Ulyanovsk region. The new wind farm will start producing eco-friendly energy in 2019. UVES-2 is the first sign of the large-scale investment program of UK "Vetroehnergetika", which includes construction of about 2 GW of wind generating capacities until 2023”, – said Alexander Chuvayev, Director General of PAO "UK “Vetroenergetika”" (manages the Wind Energy Development Fund established by RUSNANO and Fortum).

“We highly appreciate active assistance of the Ulyanovsk region's government in implementation of investment projects in the sphere of wind power engineering. The first wind farm, which was built within activities of the Wind Energy Development Fund, will start working in the region next year. For the first time in Russia, equipment made by Vestas, the world leader in the field of wind turbine production, was used during its construction. We are sure that RUSNANO and Fortum's wind farm in Ulyanovsk will become an example for several other regions where the Fund is planning to launch new wind power generating capacities”, -  said Alisher Kalanov, Chairman of the Board of UK "Vetroenergetika".

Wind turbines made by Vestas on the basis of the V126-3.45 MW platform were used during construction of the second wind farm. These are the first mounted in Russia wind driven generators that contain elements made within the company's localization programme for wind generators. The pods were assembled in Nizhny Novgorod, while blades and towers of wind generators underwent finishing processing at the platform of the Ulyanovsk wind farm.

“Timely and safe installation of the fourteenth wind driven generator has become possible thanks to well-coordinated and professional efforts of the Wind Energy Development Fund and Vestas. This wind farm's distinctive feature is that during its construction we used components localized in Russia. Development of renewable power sources in Russia includes not only new generating capacity but also development of the industry, education, and science”, – noted Kimal Yusupov, Director General of Vestas Russia.

Simultaneously with the construction of the wind farm, establishment of the blade production is carried out. Vestas Manufacturing Rus localizes production of composite blades for wind turbines in the Ulyanovsk region. Vestas, RUSNANO and Consortium of Investors of the Ulyanovsk region, which includes Ulyanovsk Nanocenter "Ulnanotech" and the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, act as partners of the project. The first blades will be manufactured at the beginning of 2019.
