Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University has become the first among higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation in terms of patents

The analysis used the database provided by the Federal Institute of Industrial Property.


In particular, last year scientists of the Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University received 161 patents and created two types of winter common wheat (Studencheskaya Niva and Volzhskij Rubin), four tools, three algorithms and the computer programs. In addition, 80 projects have been reviewed by science and technology councils at all levels and are recommended for implementation.

According to the university, just over the last five years its employees, postgraduates and students received 617 patents. In total, the database has 54 higher education institutions of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

According to Natalya Semyonova, Minister of Education and Science of the Ulyanovsk region, Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University is annually one of the leaders in patent and inventive activity among agricultural universities of the country and the region.

“I am happy to see that the university maintains its high standards. In 2017, for example, it received 152 patents. Following the results of last year, Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University took the third place among 56 agricultural higher education institutions in the national Ranking of Demand for Higher Educational Institutions in the Russian Federation 2018”, - Natalya Semyonova said.

 Within implementation of the new May Decree of the President, the Governor Sergey Morozov set the task to improve competitiveness of Ulyanovsk universities and to help them become one of the best in the country and the world. At the initiative of the head of the region, support measures have been developed for talented students and teachers. These include the N.S. Nemtsev Scholarship for students in agricultural and related sciences.

“A science and education cluster of the agro-industrial complex was created in the Ulyanovsk region in November 2017. It includes educational institutions, regulatory and supervisory public authorities, major agricultural enterprises, Ulyanovsk Research Institute and, of course, Stolypin Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University. The cluster creates the best conditions for cooperation between educational institutions, scientific organizations and business entities so that they could develop and introduce innovations in the field of agrarian science and education. In 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture used about three million rubles to support this sphere”, - reported Mikhail Semyonkin, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of the Agro-Industrial Complex and Rural Development.
