Red Route recommended for the list of pilot priority grant-aided tourist routes of Russia

The decision was made on 12 February at the extended meeting of the Committee on Economic Policy within Days of the Ulyanovsk region in the Federation Council.

The Governor Sergey Morozov proposed to include Red Route in the list of priority routes, which are a part of the pilot project of state support for tour operators who provide the tourist flow.

“We are really interested in improving tourist attractiveness of the region. Today about twenty thousand residents of the region are working in the hospitality industry. Red Route, a project of the Ulyanovsk region, was highly praised in the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and it was included in the plan of measures for implementation of the Strategy of Tourism Development in the Russian Federation until 2020. In addition, the route was included into the list of priority events introduced by the Joint Working Group of the Volga Federal District and the upper middle stream of the Yangtze River for cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres. Red Route has been implemented since 2014, and during this time the region was visited by about three thousand tourists in groups and about 15 thousand independent ones from the People's Republic of China”, - the head of the region noted.

Despite successful testing and work, so far the Ulyanovsk region's route has not been included in any lists of priority routes, which would allow tourist operators implementing the route to use any measures of state support.

“Implementation of the unique projects that show cultural and historical heritage of Russian regions is an important sphere for development of the hospitality industry. Regional authorities ensure growth of economy by using the territory's potential, its unique cultural, climatic, health improving and thematic resources. In 2018, the revenue from tourist services exceeded 2.2 billion rubles in the Ulyanovsk region. Ulyanovsk is one of three cities included in the famous Red Route. Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was born in Ulyanovsk, previously known as Simbirsk. His name is of great interest to foreign tourists, especially the ones from the People's Republic of China. The project is reasonably successful. If the route is included in the list of priority projects, not only can it increase the tourist flow, but it can also improve interaction with the People's Republic of China. In addition, Ulyanovsk will develop air travel with Chinese cities in the short term. This will also have a positive impact on development of red tourism,” - noted Mikhail Degtyarev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Fitness, Sports, Tourism and Youth Issues.

The Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy decided to recommend that the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation should consider including the Ulyanovsk Region (Red Route) into Section II (Cultural Tours) of the list of pilot priority grant-aided tourist routes across the Russian Federation.
