Federation Council suggests including Red Route in the list of pilot subsidized priority tourist routes
Valentina Matviyenko, Head of the Federation Council, signed a resolution after the Days of the Ulyanovsk Region, which were held in the Federation Council from 11 to 13 February.
The Goveror Sergey Morozov suggested including Red Route (an interregional tourist project) in the list of priority tourist routes in Russia at the extended meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, which took place within Days of the Ulyanovsk Region.
“The region has made good progress in recent years: we have identified the main growth points for the tourist sector, as well as introduced outstanding projects to promote tourism and development of tourist infrastructure. They pique interest not only in Russia, but also abroad. The Red Route project is recognized among the priority ones at the federal level and is one of the important elements to enhance tourist attraction of the region. Both the Russian Government and the State Council of the People’s Republic of China have supported the interregional tourist route. The Coordination Council for implementation of Red Route at the Federal Tourism Agency was created in the State Duma in May 2016. Currently new support measures are necessary for further development of the project”, - the Governor Sergey Morozov said.
Red Route is said to be one of the most promising projects in the sphere of tourist cooperation between Russia and the People's Republic of China. It is also important for development of interregional and international tourism. During the project's implementation since 2014, the region has been visited by about three thousand tourists as part of organized groups and about fifteen thousand independent ones from the People's Republic of China.
Opening of the international air traffic between Chinese provinces and Ulyanovsk will also help with implementation of the project because it will increase the number of potential tourists and will affect the cost of Red Route. New direct investments from the Chinese tourists can become a steady source of tax revenues to the regional budget.
