Ulyanovsk region to welcome tourists from Iran and Mediterranean countries
Relevant arrangements have been reached within the IV International Tourism Exhibition Forum "Leisure on the Volga" on 19 April.
“Today the tourism industry is one of the promising spheres of the Ulyanovsk region's social and economic development. We are very close to welcoming half a million tourists a year. We have designed a comprehensive set of measures for support of this industry and development of the hospitality infrastructure. These include giving the status of the priority tourist project, as well as granting tax benefits and preferences. We have extended the powers of the Microcredit Fund, which helps support projects in the sphere of tourism. We annually provide various grants and subsidies to companies working in the hospitality industry. Today one can say that each ruble transferred from the budget of the Ulyanovsk region is equivalent to 8 rubles of private investments. Over 800 million rubles of private investment were attracted into tourism in 2018. Currently the register of tourism investment projects has 37 projects at different stages of implementation, which are worth with the total investment of 3.5 billion rubles”, - noted Alexander Smekalin, Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region.
This year the exhibition forum brought together more than 80 Russian and foreign exhibitors. The event was attended by representatives of federal and regional executive authorities, associations of ship owners and shipping companies, delegations from Volga regions, representatives of the professional tourist trade, experts of the tourism industry, leaders of the event-industry, and investors.
“Both the number of participants and the amount of events within the business programme are increasing annually. This year we once again will carry out a Week of Tourism from 15 to 21 April; on 19 April, we will open an exhibition, which also includes the Tourist Souvenir competition. It brings together all regions of the Volga Federal District. In addition, there will be 20 more Russian regions such as Tver, St. Petersburg, Rostov, and Voronezh, so one can say that this is almost an All-Russian exhibition. As for the business programme, the industry is moving to the online format. That is why the main topic of the plenary session is Innovations and Digitalization in Tourism and Recreation. This event was attended by our colleagues from Iran and representatives of the Visit Russia programme for the Mediterranean region. They shared their expert opinion on how to create a product for foreign tourists and how to promote it”, - said Yulia Skoromolova, Director of the regional Agency for Tourism.
A number of cooperation agreements was signed during the plenary session. They aim to develop and promote tourist products of the Ulyanovsk region. Representatives of the regional tourism industry - V. Lenin's House Museum, Volga Hotel, OOO "Imperial", Oktyabrskaya Hotel, Ibis Ulyanovsk Hotel, OOO "Restorannye traditsii" - became participants of the memorandum concluded with Maleki Mokhammadreza, Director General of E-tours and Travel. The Agency for Tourism of the Ulyanovsk region signed cooperation agreements with TUI Russia and Ekaterina Sankina, a representative of the Visit Russia programme for the Mediterranean region.
“The region's tourism potential should yield money and benefit various spheres including our economy, so it is necessary to develop cooperation between local and federal travel industries with assistance of authorities. The Agency for Tourism of the Ulyanovsk region has taken significant steps to improve this cooperation. We are a major tour operator, so our activities in the region will develop the already existing potential. On the basis of the signed agreement we will carry out analysis of the region's tourism capacity; we will also determine priority tourist routes and carry out an expert assessment. Together with authorities and the region's tourist industry we will develop and promote these spheres coordinating our activities with the federal tour operator. As a result, we will achieve synergy in tourism development”, - said Alexander Sirchenko, Deputy Director General of TUI Russia .
