Ulyanovsk region to establish freight transport connection with China

The agreement with one of the leading logistics operators of the People's Republic of China was reached at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. It was decided to create a regular route for container trains from Shandong Province.

Cooperation with Zibo, one of China's special economic zones, will be carried out within the intergovernmental project "One Belt, One Road".

“It is planned to build a warehouse with the total area of 20 thousand sq.m in the special economic zone "Ulyanovsk". There will also be a container terminal with rail access that will be able to serve at least two trains simultaneously. The region is going to establish a consolidation center for Russian goods that will be exported to the People's Republic of China. The investments will total more than one billion rubles. More than one thousand new jobs will be created for residents of the Ulyanovsk region”, – Sergey Morozov reported.

Zibo arranges freight traffic to Russia and Europe; the shipping is carried out as a part of regular container trains to Moscow, where the goods are distributed. Containers from China will be delivered directly to the Ulyanovsk region for distribution to other regions.

“The duty-free zone regime in Ulyanovsk SEZ allows to store foreign goods in warehouses without customs clearance charge. Then one can sell them throughout the country”, - noted Sergey Vasin, CEO of Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation.

According to Oleg Barabanov, Head of PSEZ "Ulyanovsk", it is planned to send at least seven regular trains a month.
