Ulyanovsk region develops cooperation with the Republic of Turkey

Andrey Tyurin, First Deputy Chairman of the regional Government, presented the region's experience in cooperation with the foreign partner and proposals regarding future development of investment relations with the country's business community. The event took place at the Russia-Turkey Industrial Forum on 8 July, which was held as part of Innoprom-2019.

“Active contacts between the Ulyanovsk region and Turkish businesses, which aim to attract investors, were established in 2012. We have been working together for more than 10 years, and this country is our main partner. Today these activities are well under way, and we have improved frequency and effectiveness of business visits. I am sure that Russian-Turkish partnership in the field of investments and trade has great potential”, - Governor Sergey Morozov noted.

The region has been implementing a project by MARTUR FOMPAK INTERNATIONAL since 2015. This company manufactures car seats. The investment made about 450 million rubles and more than 300 jobs were created. According to the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, now the investor is planning to implement the second stage and to increase the output by 30%.

“We have received nomination for the new project and its first      bid; currently we are waiting for results regarding the second one. Once it is approved, we are planning to expand production. We expect development in the projects we have already received: our welding production will increase more than fourfold in 2021; and I think that the floor space and personnel for the new project can double. We will need new sites”, - said Khagan Dzhangirov, Director at Martur Automotive Seating and Interiors.

Turkish investors implement two major industrial projects in the region; both are at the manufacturing stage. The first one is AB InBev Efes brewery and the second one is OOO "Martur Automotive Seating and Interiors".

“The Ulyanovsk region is not far away from Turkey and it has Russia's only port special economic zone with simplified customs regulations, which is located at the Ulyanovsk-East airport. All of these factors create favorable prerequisites for construction of logistics centers to distribute goods of our foreign partner in the Russian Federation. Currently we are negotiating with several companies simultaneously. They manufacture composite materials for production of wind turbines, automotive components, and build medical rehabilitation centers. Together with our Turkish partners, we have created a good success story of constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of investment attraction”, - said Andrey Tyurin, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region.

As a result of bilateral meetings and negotiations held over the last four years, the Ulyanovsk region has signed cooperation agreements with Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey, Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB), Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON), and FIADE.
