About 100 youth activists from China and Russia to undergo Soft Skills leadership training in the Ulyanovsk region

The youth convention of leadership competences started in the region on 16 July. The event is held with the assistance of Governor Sergey Morozov. The convention is organized by Ulyanovsk State University, which won a grant of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs in the nomination "Development of social elevators".

“Today communication skills, the so-called soft skills, are in a great demand. That is why this training course is so important; it will help students discover these abilities and develop them in the right way. I am really pleased that representatives of the People's Republic of China have also joined our project. More than ten agreements have been signed within cooperation between China and the Ulyanovsk region. They aim to exchange experience between educational organizations; including training and implementation of joint programmes and projects. I think that the convention of leadership competences will bring our business relations to the new stage”, - said Ekaterina Uba, First Deputy Prime Minister of the region.

Chinese delegation includes nine representatives of the Chongqing Province such as heads of technology, consulting, IT and other companies, as well as a culture and creative corporation; Chairman of the Chongqing Writers' Association; a conductor. Students of Ulyanovsk State University, Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, and Ulyanovsk State Technical University will represent the Ulyanovsk region.

The convention takes place in Ulyanovsk from 16 to 23 July. There will be various project and community conferences, master classes, trainings, round tables and discussions, meetings with representatives of the region's business community and visits to enterprises. Over these days, each participant will undergo training that consists of four educational modules: "Management of team activities within a project. Goal setting. Delegation", "Marketing of the leader. Psychology and charisma. Personal Branding", "Case session", and "Netvorking. Developing business contacts".

“Creative professions are popular today and require good imagination, thinking outside the box, an ability to work under pressure. The most demanded flexible skills include communicative abilities, goal setting, teamwork, and self-presentation. At the same time, a number of studies indicate that only every seventh university graduate has these qualities at the right level. That is why it is so important to develop youth's soft skills; it is as necessary as development of academic programmes and professional competences – the so-called hard skills”, - noted Kirill Glinkin, Head of ULSU Department for Youth Policy and Mass Cultural Activities.

The general concept for development of leadership skills will be prepared during the workshop "Flexible leaders. Application of AGILE methods". Experts in the field of teamwork and development of communicative skills will take part in the event.

Participants of the training course will gain leadership competences as a result of their work.

“Such initiatives for students are one of the best ways to invest in personal and professional development. Stress resistance, communication, self-presentation and adaptation to the fast changing labor market - all these skills are in high demand today. Research has shown that 80% of professional success depends on soft skills, and 20% – on professional ones. Development of flexible skills improves the quality of teamwork, its planning and distribution of tasks. Given these facts, the team of Ulyanovsk State University decided to carry out the first Soft Skills youth convention of leadership competences”, - said Tatyana Kirillova, ULSU Vice Rector for External Relations and Youth Policy.

In addition, the Russian-Chinese youth business incubator will take place at the same time. This is a unique programme developed to bring Russian projects to Chinese market and to attract Chinese investments into economy of the Russian Federation. The business incubator will create conditions for development of youth entrepreneurship and international cooperation. The project was created for businesspeople under 35 who want to enter Chinese market or to attract Chinese investments. It is implemented in two stages. Within the first one, representatives of the Ulyanovsk region visited Chongqing in early July. Now representatives from China have come to the region with a return visit.
