About 30 Types of Marital Arts to Be Presented at 1st TAFISA World Martial Arts Festival

This major sports event will take place in the region from 13 to 17 September.


Within the festival master classes, show-performances, and seminars will take place with participation of world and Europe champions, as well as heads of All-Russian sport federations. It is planned that Ilya Yorga, the founder of Fudokan karate style, and Wakayama Masashi, the honorary president of the Kobudo International School (IKWS),  will become guests of the event. Twenty-four well-known foreign and Russian athletes have confirmed their participation in master classes.

Currently the promotion programme "Ambassador of the 1st TAFISA Martial Arts Festival" is actively implemented. Recently it has been joined by Artem Vakhitov, the multiple champion of Russia in Thai boxing, and Dmitry Nosov, Honored Master of Sports in Judo, Master of Sports in Sambo, the bronze medallist of XXVIII Olympic Games in Athens.

“Preparation of facilities for the festival is well under way. We have started developing scenarios for events  and bringing the necessary equipment to the sports facilities. For example, specialized coatings for martial arts have been brought to sports centers "Favorit" and "Avtomobilist" where master classes will take place. But not only sports facilities should be involved in all activities. This day should become a holiday for the district. There will be cultural and mass events and presentations of sports clubs, which children will be able to join right away,” - noted Alexander Smekalin, Chairman of the Government of the Ulyanovsk region.

According to the regional Ministry of Sport, about one thousand foreign participants from 26 countries of the world have already been registered. The professional programme of the event, which includes 12 types of sport, will be presented at several sport venue of the regional center. Master classes on kudo and kyokushin karate will be held in the sports and recreation center "Orion". The sports and recreation centre "Favorit" will welcome sambo and kurash wrestlers; boxers, thai boxers and kickboxers will meet in the sports and recreation center "Novoe pokolenie"; the sports and recreation center "Avtomobilist" will hold a master class on fudokan karate; aikido classes will take place in the sports and recreation center of the main university; the field-and-track training ground "Spartak" will see kudo and ju-jitsu classes; and pankration will be held in the taekwondo school of Olympic Reserve.

In Dimitrovgrad TAFISA will take place in four venues. A master class on kyokushin karate will take place in the Sport Palace "Delfin". The sports and recreation center "Pobeda" will welcome sambo and kurash wrestlers. Boxers and kickboxers will meet in the sports and recreation center "Nejtron". School No. 19 will host a presentation of the Sambo in Schools programme.

According to experts of the Ministry of Sport of the region, the festival will help to attract additional resources for development of sports, as well as to involve more Ulyanovsk residents in physical education classes, which is the key indicator of the federal project "Sport is the way of life" within the national project "Demography".
