Aviastar-SP Hands Over Third Il-76MD-90A to Ministry of Defense of Russia

The new heavy military transport aircraft manufactured at AO "Aviastar-SP" has been deployed to the air fleet based in Ulyanovsk. The aircraft was built within the state contract.


“After the first seven months of 2019, Aviastar-SP shows good growth rates in shipment of its products - it has increased by 3.2 times compared to the same period last year. The enterprise participates in several programmes at the same time. For example, Aviastar is the largest enterprise in implementation of the МС-21 project, which was presented at MAKS on August 27. This year it is the third aircraft transferred to the customer within the State Defense Order. I am sure that with the existing volumes of production, the plant will successfully complete the task and ship five aircraft before the end of the year,” - Governor Sergey Morozov said.

The document on transfer of the aircraft was signed by Vasiliy Dontsov (Managing Director at Aviastar-SP), Vladimir Semenov (Managing Director at UAC-TS) and Vadim Dyrdin (Commander of the 235th aviation regiment of the Military Transport Aviation (VTA)).

According to Vasiliy Dontsov, this is the sixth aircraft of this modification that the plant has transferred to the Military Transport Aviation, and the third made within the production programme for 2019. By the end of the year, the enterprise is planning to complete at least two more planes.

Currently, flight tests of the convertible Il-78M-90A aerial refueling tanker are underway. It was also presented at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2019.

IL-76MD-90A is the second generation of the famous IL-76 aircraft. It received more powerful engines ПС-90А-76 that comply with ICAO for noise level. The chassis has been enhanced and many other changes have been made.  It also has increased capacity and range of delivery of troops and cargo. The second-generation heavy transport aircraft received a new flight-navigation system, an automatic control system, a communication complex and a “glass cockpit”. Six multifunctional digital screens on the pilots’ dashboard display all the necessary information to control the aircraft. The equipment meets all modern requirements for aircraft avionics and significantly increases flight safety, as well as navigation and landing accuracy.
