More Than 20 Thousand People Participated in 1st TAFISA World Martial Arts Festival in Ulyanovsk Region

Results of the sports event were summed up at the business forum on 16 September.

“The festival has fully met our expectations. Representatives of 25 countries took part in this grandiose sports event. Almost every second Russian region sent its representatives to us. More than three thousand athletes attended 40 master classes. I am sure that many of those who participated in the festival will get into sports. Martial arts promote the philosophy of fair contest, respect for the enemy, and self-improvement. This idea was the basis of the festival,” - said Alexander Smekalin, Chairman of the Ulyanovsk Region Government.

Participants of the business forum noticed positive experience of the 1st TAFISA World Martial Arts Festival in Ulyanovsk. Wolfgang Baumann, TAFISA Secretary General, said that the second festival would take place next year.

“I honestly believe that Ulyanovsk is not part of the martial arts' and will always be connected to them. We are grateful to organizers of the festival that our original vision of this event has come true. Our main goal is not to show who is the best in martial arts, but to demonstrate their diversity. It is a major development institute for children and adults alike. Personally, I think that the future of martial arts is fighting against physical inactivity of people," - Wolfgang Baumann explained.

The sports festival was officially opened in Volga-Sport-Arena on 14 September. The ceremony was attended by Sergey Morozov (Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region), Ju-Ho Chang  (President of the Association for International Sport for All - TAFISA), and Vladimir Gutenyov (First Vice-President of Russian Engineering Union; Deputy of the State Duma). President Vladimir Putin sent a welcoming telegram to participants of the 1st TAFISA World Martial Arts Festival.

New equipment was installed in a number of sports schools of the region within preparation for the international event. This will allow Ulyanovsk sports federations to improve their training methods, as well as to carry out major competitions in the region.

“Russian Kickboxing Championship will take place in Ulyanovsk next year. During the event it is planned to choose sportsmen for European competitions. We expect that more than two thousand participants will come to the region. They will be able to compete on a new carpet, which our federation received to perform during the festival, - said Vladimir Sheyanov, Gead of the Ulyanovsk regional kickboxing federation. - In general, the event has been very useful for us. On thousand, six hundred and forty children from all over the Ulyanovsk region attended a master class with participation of Mikhail Gerasimov, head coach of the country. After talking to the top coaches, young athletes definitely will not give up kickboxing. They will get their friends and classmates interested in sport. For us, this is the most important thing: our goal is to involve as many children as possible in physical education and sports. This is a key indicator of the federal project "Sport - norma zhizni" carried out within the national project "Demography".”
