Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy: "Ulyanovsk region is an attractive place for international investors"
Head of the Ministry announced this idea during the working visit of the German business delegation to the Ulyanovsk region on 24 October.
The region was visited by representatives of more than twenty foreign companies working in the field of metal working, machine tool building, plastics, measuring instruments, industrial electrical engineering, automation, logistics, water supply, IT technologies, and software; as well as representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bavaria, consulting agencies, and the banking sector.
“We know that the Ulyanovsk region is a very attractive place for international investors as many European companies work here. There are favorable economic conditions, as well as land plots for implementation of manufacturing projects. We want to improve cooperation between Russian regions, German enterprises, and Bavarian companies. It is important to reduce the pressure coming from current sanctions. We need to do a lot of thing in the field of mechanical engineering, where we have always worked extensively. Unfortunately, this is not always possible because of the sanctions. Our delegation also includes companies operating in the field of digitalization. This is an essential part of modern economy and holds the key to the future. This is another promising area for cooperation between our regions,” - said Hubert Aiwanger.
The foreign delegation has visited Shaeffler plant that has been operating in the region for 5 years. Guests have also participated in the tour of the Ulyanovsk Nanotechnology Center; then Alina Abitova, Deputy Director General of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, made a presentation about economic potential of the Ulyanovsk region.
Alexander Smekalin, Chairman of the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region, welcomed participants of the meeting.
“Our region is still the most interesting one for German business. We have discussed future prospects for cooperation. Of course, the main areas are mechanical engineering, production of automotive components, and agriculture. But today German business is ready for cooperation in the field of innovative technologies and renewable energy; I am talking about not only wind industry, but also hydrogen fuel. We have a laboratory that applies these technologies. Our project team is planning to cooperate with Bavarian Hydrogen Center. In the future, we are considering partnership in the field of hydrogen-fueled vehicles. This is a promising sphere as almost all major car manufacturers are developing this technology,” - the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
B2B meetings between Ulyanovsk businesses and representatives of Bavarian companies took place after the official part of the visit. They aimed to establish professional contacts and to discuss opportunities for cooperation.
In addition, the parties discussed organization of direct flights between Ulyanovsk and Munich. Bavarian government is interested in developing permanent transport links and is ready to work together with the Ulyanovsk region to find airlines ready to perform necessary flights.
