Ulyanovsk Footballers Participate in International Tournament in China
The friendship football tournament "Changsha 2019" is taking place in the sister city from 24 November to 1 December.
A team that consists of 23 pupils born in 2005 represent the Ulyanovsk region at competitions. They study at the regional Volga Youth Sports School of the Football Olympic Reserve named after N.P. Starostin. Young athletes will have to compete with people from seven countries.
The tournament is organized by the Chinese Football Association, Hunan Provincial Sports Bureau, and Changsha Municipal People's Government.
“Cooperation between the Ulyanovsk region and Hunan Province is one of the priority areas for strengthening of our partnership with the People's Republic of China. The agreement on mutual support in economy, science and culture was reached between the Government of the region and the leadership of Hunan Province ten years ago. During this time, we have been systematically expanding areas of our interaction. An Agreement of Understanding and Further Devlopment of Cooperation in the Field of Physical Education and Sports was signed at the second meeting of the Council for Interregional Cooperation between the Regions of the Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River in June 2017. A month later, young footballers of the Hunan Province Experimental School and sports schools of the Ulyanovsk region held a number of friendly matches. Participation in the Changsha 2019 Tournament will give our students an opportunity not only to learn about such a beautiful country as China, but also to make friends with their peers from other cities - twin towns of the administrative center of Hunan Province. These include Gumi (South Korea), Kagoshima (Japan), Mons (Belgium), and Saint Paul (USA),”- commented the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Ulyanovsk Region.
According to the regional Ministry of Sports, the infrastructure of sports schools is being upgraded with the support of Governor Sergey Morozov. New balls, gates, and exercise equipment was used during training of young athletes. This was made possible thanks to subsidies received within the project "Sport is the Standard of Living" of the national project "Demography", which implementation is supervised by President Vladimir Putin. In 2019, the School of Football Olympic Reserve received 9 million rubles.“Our team spirit is high; children are ready and motivated. Especially because it is their first tournament of such level. We carried out a practice and training session at the stadium "Simbirsk" during autumn holidays. As a result, players who were the most prepared for participation in this tournament were selected. During trainings, we tried to achieve the highest level of teamwork,” - noted Zahar Kozlov, coach of the team.
