Alexander Kalinin Highly Praised Work of Ulyanovsk Region's Government to Promote Entrepreneurship among Younger Generation
Alexander Kalinin, President of the All-Russian Non-Governmental Organization of Small and Medium Business “OPORA RUSSIA”, School No. 82 as part of his working visit to the region. This educational establishment won in one of the seasons of the innovative educational project "School Entrepreneurship Association".
“We did our best to build a single system to promote business activities in the region; the basis was provided by introduction of entrepreneurship education in schools. By improving attitude towards this area and developing a set of necessary skills, we want to engage the younger generation in the idea of creating their own business in the future. The next step can be participation in such project as the Student Entrepreneurship Association, during which these young people will already have an opportunity to start their business,” - said Sergey Morozov, Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region.
Alexander Kalinin noted that the region would receive various advantages thanks to training of future businesspeople starting from school years.
He said, “Ulyanovsk region is the first place to start extensive work on entrepreneurship education in schools. I personally had a look at how children learn the basics of business activities. If this practice is widely deployed in several years, the Ulyanovsk region will become the most business-focused territory in Russia. I am not joking; we have experience of our foreign colleagues as an example. The Czech Republic began developing this sphere in early 2000, and ten years later they received a completely different level of entrepreneurship in their small country. The Czech Republic is showing impressive results in terms of economic growth. It was able to use its human potential to the full extent - the most critical resource, even in our country.”
Currently, the Ulyanovsk region is the only place in the country to introduce the Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship course done outside of class hours in schools. The main principles of doing business are taught in more than 150 schools; teachers also received relevant training.
The School Entrepreneurship Association project has been implemented in the region since 2015 at the initiative of Governor Sergey Morozov. About 1000 schoolchildren participated in it during this time. Experience in implementation of this educational programme was adopted in several Russian regions. The training course includes two modules. Within the first one, children participate in business games, trainings and webinars, as well as visit small businesses and meet up with Ulyanovsk entrepreneurs. At this stage, teams think of a business idea and work to explain why it is necessary. The second module focuses on the history of entrepreneurship; it includes thematic skills contests and competitions. After this course, schoolchildren submit completed business projects to the jury, which were developed under the guidance of professionals in this sphere.According to Ruslan Gainetdinov, Chairman of the Board of Ulyanovsk Region Entrepreneurship Development Corporation, promotion of business activities and involvement in them are important parts for implementation of the Small and Medium-Sized Businesses and Support for Individual Entrepreneurs national project, which was initiated by President Vladimir Putin. In total, more than 20 thousand young residents of the region have participated in regional educational projects over five years.
