Ulyanovsk Region's International Project "Goncharov Days in Europe" Presented to National Commission for UNESCO
The events are to take place within the international cultural project "Russian Seasons" in 2020. They will be organized by I.A. Goncharov Museum of Local Lore and I.A. Goncharov Drama Theatre.
Evgeniya Sidorova, Minister of Art and Cultural Policy of Ulyanovsk Region, presented the project in Moscow during the meeting with Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Secretary-General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO.
Governor Sergey Morozov and Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation, discussed development of this project during the meeting in Moscow on 15 January.
“Ulyanovsk is the only city that represents Russia in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the Literature sphere. In 2020, "Russian Seasons" takes place in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg simultaneously. It is encouraging that Ulyanovsk got the opportunity to take part in this large-scale cultural project and prepared the Goncharov Days in Europe programme. This amazing project aims to attract attention of philologists, writers, publishers, journalists, and students from France and other European countries,” - said Evgeniya Sidorova, Minister of Art and Cultural Policy of Ulyanovsk Region.
The programme will include a scientific and educational activity "Goncharov Readings", an exhibition "Goncharov and Simbirsk", a stage adaptation of Goncharov's novel "Oblomov", and opening of the memorial tablet on the former building of Hotel du Bresil, where the first public reading of “Oblomov” took place on August 19-20, 1857.
At the meeting with Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Secretary-General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, participants discussed the possibility of organizing thematic events at UNESCO Headquarters.
