Ulyanovsk Region to Develop Cooperation and Export with Russian-German Foreign Trade Chamber

Governor Sergey Morozov and Mattias Shepp, Chairman of the Board of the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce, signed the agreement on 18 February.

Cooperation will aim to develop export of goods and services provided by manufacturers of the Ulyanovsk region to markets of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union. Another task is to establish cooperative, freight and logistics business communication. The German side will help to promote goods and services of Ulyanovsk producers and will recommend reliable partners for business interactions. It will also organize trips to Germany for Russian exporters so that they could establish direct contacts with potential partners and customers.

Sergey Morozov emphasized, “Germany is one of the priority export markets for Ulyanovsk entrepreneurs. This agreement is another major step for development of our relations. Today, Denis Valentinovich Manturov (Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation) and I answered questions of German companies at the forum. I can tell that German business community is becoming more interested in Russia. We held several meetings with potential investors regarding localization of new industries in the Ulyanovsk region. So far, our German partners have already implemented ten major projects in the region. German investments totaled about 300 million euros. About two thousand high-quality jobs have been created for residents of the region at new manufacturing facilities. These are unique high-tech productions; some of them have no analogues not only in Russia, but also in Eastern Europe. We are interested in increasing the number of such facilities and are creating all necessary conditions for this.”

On 17-18 February, delegation of the Ulyanovsk region is to take part in the conference on improvement of Russian investment image "Innovation as Engine for Economic Growth" in Germany. The event is organized by the Russian-German Foreign Trade Chamber together with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce. It will be attended by more than 500 government and business representatives, as well as senior executive of German and Russian companies.

Igor Ryabikov, Executive Director of Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, made a report called "Regional Export: Advantages for German Business."

Igor Ryabikov said, “As of today, Ulyanovsk region exports goods to 102 countries; about 150 companies sell their products in the far abroad. The most interesting project in this sphere involves creation of a free trade zone in the region that will become a territory with special customs and tax status. The free trade zone at Port Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) will allow us to introduce effective tools for development of cargo traffic crossing our region from west to east and from south to north. We will also remove and simplify a lot of bureaucratic procedures connected with global trade, as well as improve conditions for localization of foreign facilities in the Ulyanovsk region near all necessary consumer markets and logistics routes.”

During the event, the Ulyanovsk delegation also held more than 10 meetings and negotiations with German companies regarding placement of their facilities in the region. These include enterprises working in aviation and automotive industries, machine-tool building, production of construction materials and supplies for the healthcare industry.
