Ulyanovsk Region to Purchase 70 New Trams in 2020
Sergey Morozov, Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region, signed the order during the staff meeting on 25 February.
The head of the region said, “We have implemented a project to provide Ulyanovsk schoolchildren and students with free trips by trams and trolleybuses. To make life of our citizens more comfortable, it is necessary to update trams. At the same time, we must aim to purchase modern transport, which is assembled with the use of cutting-edge technologies. Today I have signed the order to purchase 70 new trams.”
According to the document, this year the regional Ministry of Industry and Transport and the Ministry of Finance should purchase 70 trams through capital lease.
“This will allow to update the rolling stock of ground electric transport in cities and to take off the road trams made in 1977-1987. This will improve the quality and safety of passenger transport. Low-floor trolleys will have air conditioning and special equipment within the Accessible Environment project. Trams will be purchased under the Safe and High-Quality Roads national project with the use of funds from the federal budget,” - said Dmitry Vavilin, Minister of Industry and Transport of Ulyanovsk Region.
A large-scale upgrade of the rolling stock for passenger transport began in the region in 2019. One hundred midibuses were purchased within the state programme "Development of transport infrastructure in Ulyanovsk region". New vehicles will be used for municipal and inter-municipal routes.
