Number of Natural Gas Vehicles Continues to Increase in Ulyanovsk Region

Participants of the All-Russian natural gas vehicle rally "V otpusk na avtomobile" ("Road Trip") visited the region on September 15 and examined production facilities of SIMAZ plant.

President Vladimir Putin emphasized the advantage of using natural gas as a fuel for transport.

Governor Sergey Morozov said, “I think that such a project as "V otpusk na avtomobile" will draw attention of residents and enterprises to the opportunities for development of the natural gas engine fuel. Currently, the Ulyanovsk region is participating in implementation of the state programme called "Energy Sector Development" by building natural gas (methane) fueling stations and converting vehicles. Natural gas as a fuel significantly reduces harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Now there are seven natural gas fueling stations in the region; three of them were built in 2019, and another one will be commissioned this year. We also support vehicle owners who have decided to use methane as fuel and to convert their cars. We will provide subsidies from the regional budget for these purposes.”

SIMAZ plant presented its experience in equipping buses with natural gas-powered engines to participants of the rally.

“The goal of our project is to promote and show the benefits of using natural gas as a fuel. Our route is over eight thousand kilometers long; one car started this rally, while others could join the event in the regions it goes through. Today, we examined production facilities of SIMAZ plant in Ulyanovsk. The representatives talked about the model range of buses that use natural gas. It is really encouraging that the region is developing the sector of natural gas fuel and is creating all necessary infrastructure,” - said Aisen Zhirkov, a participant in the rally.

In 2019, the Government of the region purchased 88 SIMAZ vehicles (41 of them use methane) as part of the passenger transport renewal programme. By the end of 2020, it is planned to buy another 70 buses running on this environmentally friendly type of fuel.

During a thematic meeting in May 2019, Russian President   emphasized that gas is not only a cost-effective, but also environmentally friendly kind of fuel. At the Russian Investment Forum, which took place in Sochi on 14 February 2019, Governor of Ulyanovsk Region Sergey Morozov and Mikhail Likhachev, Director of Gazprom Gas Engine Fuel LLC, signed an agreement on cooperation in this sphere.
