Ulyanovsk Region Develops Partnership with Germany

A meeting between Governor Sergey Morozov and representatives of German business community took place in the Dialogue with the Governor format in Moscow on 2 October. During it, potential foreign partners learned about investment potential of the region.

Before the event, Sergey Morozov held negotiations with Geza Andreas von Geyr, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Federation.

Sergey Morozov said, “We are honored that the Year of Germany in Russia begins with a meeting with our region. Germany continues to be one of the main foreign trade partners of the Ulyanovsk region. The consistent state support provided to investors pays off even in the current difficult times. In the first six months of 2020, the Ulyanovsk region became the leader among Russian territories according to the growth of investment activities; the volume index of fixed investment made 203.9%. Despite all current restrictions, we are actively working to localize more than 200 Russian and foreign companies in the region. The volume of German investments in large industrial enterprises and factories of the region totaled about 300 million euros. Ten major investment projects of German companies have been implemented in the Ulyanovsk region from 2012 to present. Foreign partners created about two thousand jobs and built five large facilities.”

The head of the region also held negotiations with Matthias Schepp, Chairman of the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. The head of the economic organization acknowledged the high quality of work carried by the Ulyanovsk region's development team.

He said, “It's good when the problems of our companies are solved quickly, and it is even better when they do not occur at all. And this is just the case with the Ulyanovsk region.”

The parties identified automotive, aircraft and machine tool industries, as well as production of agricultural machinery and components for these spheres, as the priority areas for cooperation and implementation of investment projects. The Ulyanovsk region and investors from Germany have a great potential for partnership in the field of light and food industries, alternative energy sources and production of pharmaceutical substances and medicine. The region is also interested in agricultural processing and is ready to cooperate in this sphere.

“During the event, we held about ten meetings and negotiations with German companies interested in developing cooperation and placing their production facilities in Russia. We presented the Ulyanovsk region's investment potential and invited our future partners to visit sites of the industrial park "Zavolzhye", the Port Special Economic Zone "Ulyanovsk" and the territory of priority social and economic development "Dimitrovgrad". Germany is one of our strategic partners in the field of investment. Companies operating in the region, include Schaeffler, DMG MORI, Henkel Bautechnik, Quarzwerke and Jokey Plastik. They are already enjoying our favorable investment climate, which is very important for new partners who are not yet familiar with the Ulyanovsk region,” - said Sergey Vasin, CEO of Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation.

Within the Dialogue with the Governor, heads of enterprises that already have a productive partnership with the Ulyanovsk region or wish to have one asked Sergey Morozov various questions. The head of the region and German entrepreneurs discussed the possibility of expanding their activities and placing production facilities in the region.
