Ulyanovsk: National City Park ′′Seven Jewels of Sviyaga" Can Receive More Than 600 Thousand Visitors a Year
A meeting chaired by Governor Sergey Morozov was held on 18 November. The participants talked about cleaning of the river and a park that should be created on its banks.
The event took place in Simbirsk Diocesan Administration. The territory near the Holy Ascension Cathedral will be part of the future complex.
“I have approved establishment of a Coordination Council for implementation of these projects. It includes representatives of the ministries involved in creation of the national city park ′′Seven Jewels of Sviyaga". It is time for us to move forward, to form an action plan, so that our beloved landmarks near the river could have their place in the present and the future. Efforts should be made to create a comfortable environment so that everyone could enjoy nature,” - emphasized Sergey Morozov.
According to Gulnara Rakhmatulina, Acting Minister of Nature and Circular Economy of Ulyanovsk Region, cleaning of the first stage of the Sviyaga River is to begin in 2022. Dmitry Kirillov, Head of the Federal Agency for Water Resources, previously gave an order to specialists of the central region water management organization (Centrregionvodhoz) to develop design documentation and to carry out the work itself.
“First of all, it is necessary to clean the river bed because we need to protect people living in Vyrypaevka, Dachny, Mostovaya and Seld, settlements in Ulyanovsk, from flooding. In addition, this will reduce the water table in adjacent territories and stabilize landslides,” - commented Gulnara Rakhmatulina, Acting Minister of Nature and Circular Economy of Ulyanovsk Region.
Design documentation necessary for river cleaning will be prepared next year, while the activities themselves will start at three sites in 2022: from Vyrypaevka to the embankment of Ulyanovsk State University (UlSU); from part of the UlSU embankment and CHPP-1; and from CHPP-1 to Dachny, Mostovaya and Seld.
Environmental rehabilitation of the Sviyaga River will be carried out at the expense of federal funds as part of the project "Preservation of unique water objects" within Ecology national project, which was initiated by President Vladimir Putin.
It is also planned to create a complex of facilities for the Seven Jewels of Sviyaga national park, which will become the central venue to hold recreational, educational, scientific, tourism, health, sport, historical and cultural events.
In particular, the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports of Ulyanovsk Region is taking the initiative to develop rowing in the region.
“It is planned to build several training camps for rowing within easy reach of the population. Each of them will be able to accommodate up to 50 people. We are also negotiating with the Rowing Center regarding their project to hold All-Russian and international competitions. This project can be implemented if we build a rowing canal or a waterway in the Sviyaga River, 1200 meters long and 120 meters wide,” - said Ramil Egorov, Minister of Physical Education and Sport of Ulyanovsk Region.
In addition, the park will include such landmarks as a station for young naturalists, a land complex around one of the largest shopping centers in the city, the territory around the Holy Ascension Cathedral, embankment near the Ulyanovsk State University, and Black Lake. In the future, it is planned to improve the Sviyaga river bank located next to UlSU, as well as to build entertainment and promenade areas. In total, the national park will be able to receive more than 600 thousand visitors a year.
