Three Projects of Ulyanovsk Region Become Winners of Russian Event Awards 2020

The final of the competition among event tourism projects was held in Ekaterinburg on 8-10 December. Among the best were the X International Cultural Forum, Undoria Geopark and Women's Russian Boxing Championship.

In total, 390 projects from 59 regions of Russia and three foreign ones implemented in Moldova and the United Arab Emirates were submitted to the event in 2020. Ulyanovsk projects will complete for the prizes of the Russian Event Awards 2021 in their native region as Ulyanovsk won the right to hold the anniversary award ceremony.

The Undoria Geopark project became the winner in the Best Natural Recreation Area For Tourist Events nomination. Svoya Ferma Farm took the second place. Applications also included Country Park "Zadvorky" located in the Moscow Region, Belgorod Park of regional significance "Klyuchy", the Center for Environmental Education "Zhemchuzhny" in the Utrish State Nature Reserve, Krasnodar Region, and other 17 finalists.

“The special epidemiological situation of 2020 has not affected the competition in any way. All nominations that included projects from the Ulyanovsk region are the most popular ones. Each finalist is interesting in its own way, as well as original and worthy of recognition. Considering all these bright ideas, it is even more pleasant that Ulyanovsk projects do not only shine, but are also recognized as the best among many,” - said Kirill Valov, Project Manager at the Foundation "Ulyanovsk – the Capital of Culture".

"ATMOSPHERE (ATMOSFERA) - Performance Festival of Contemporary Art", which is another Ulyanovsk project, won silver in the Best Tourist Event nomination.

The Women's Russian Boxing Championship, which was held in Ulyanovsk from 25 October to 1 November, received a special prize for the effective coordination between the government, business, sports and tourism.

The X International Cultural Forum received the grand prix of the IX National Award. The anniversary event organized by the Government of Ulyanovsk Region and the Foundation "Ulyanovsk – the Capital of Culture" was carried out in the region from 4 to 20 September. Some sites were available only online due to COVID-19. Six thousand people participated in offline events provided within the business and cultural programme.

In addition, the grand prix was awarded to the Stream Battle project, a competition for streamers dedicated to Ulyanovsk heritage tourism.

“Event tourism today is very popular in not only Russian but also global tourism industry. Ulyanovsk region presented many successful projects in the finals of Russian Event Awards 2020. Such a high praise at the National Award in the field of event tourism shows the quality of our work: the number and the quality of our tourism events are improving, and we do our best to promote them,” - said Denis Ilyin, Director of the Agency for Tourism of Ulyanovsk Region.

This is not the first time Ulyanovsk projects win in this competition. In 2019, the interregional food and music festival for the entire family "Bulvar" (Boulevard) took the first place in the Best Food Tourism Event nomination.
