Ulyanovsk Region to Host Thematic Week for New National Project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry"

Activities aimed at development of the industry will be held in the region at the initiative of Governor Sergey Morozov from 25 to 31 January.


“One of the key events for Russian tourism industry in 2021 will be the launch of a new national project called "Tourism and Hospitality Industry", which was supported by President Vladimir Putin. The project will be active until 2030. It will primarily aim to advance the industry and to promote travelling within the country. The federal agency is going to double the number of Russians preferring to rest in health centers over ten years. In addition, the amount of local holiday trips should triple. The tourism industry will also increase the number of its employees from 2.5 million to 4.2 million people. I would like to remind you that at the moment, more than 18 thousand residents are working in this sector in the Ulyanovsk region,” - said Denis Ilyin, Director of the Ulyanovsk Region Agency for Tourism.

The national project is currently under design. It is expected to include three federal programmes: Creating High-Quality and Diverse Tourist Products, Making Tourist Products More Available, Improving Management in Tourism.

According to Zarina Doguzova, Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturizm), funding will be provided as one of the support measures to projects connected with infrastructure for comfortable outdoor activities. This includes construction of modern campsites, car camping and modular hotels, as well as development of new hiking routes and improvement of the existing ones. Projects aimed at creating accessible environment and new routes for people with disabilities will also receive support.

According to experts of the Ulyanovsk Region Agency for Tourism, regional programmes are under development to meet the goals of the national project. The preparations should be completed by this February.

During the thematic week, the region will host a meeting of the Tourism and Hospitality Council under the Governor, which will sum up the progress made and outline the tasks for development of the industry in 2021. Online conferences will be held to promote new projects in the tourism sector with the participation of representatives of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives. It is also planned to carry out meetings with members of the event industry and a discussion regarding support measures for it, seminars and forums, educational programmes.

A new enrollment year for the School of Tourism Volunteers starts on 25 January; an updated office of the Tourist Information Center of the Ulyanovsk Region is to open in the Volga Hotel on 29 January.

Implementation of the regional project "Thank You, Doctors" is underway. Excursions to the municipal sights will be held for medical workers who help to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The presentation of two projects - "Tourist Sailing Route of Ulyanovsk Region" and "Big Ecological Path" - will be held within the thematic week.
