Ulyanovsk Region Builds Fish Farm in Yantarny Ruchey

On 4 February, Governor Sergey Morozov examined the progress in implementation of the investment project in Bogdashkino, Cherdaklinsky District.

He said, “Cherdaklinsky District will get a unique fish farm. Today, the investor and I examined implementation of the project, which will be launched in 2021. I am glad that the fish-breeding industry has started developing in our region. Such grants as Beginner Farmer and Agrostartup have helped to increase the number of fish farms. Five grants have been allocated for the development of fish farms since 2016. In addition, since 2017, this industry has received regional support to reimburse part of expenses connected with purchase of fish seed, feed concentrate, construction materials and specialized equipment. In 2020, more than 16 million rubles were provided as subsidies from the regional budget. I would like to stress that each municipality needs to continue building fish farms. This will help to attract investors to this industry and will also increase the number of such facilities and their output in the Ulyanovsk region.”

Yantarny Ruchey fish farm will have a recirculating aquaculture system built with the use of a unique Danish technology. The facility will include several workshops with this equipment, as well as open ponds, which will support production of a bioproduct. The load on the ecosystem is non-existent since the amount of water discharged is much less than the one at traditional fish farms.

The first phase of construction includes a complex with the area of 1,450 square meters to raise rainbow trout. The capacity of this facility is designed for production of fish with the weigh from 300 to 2500 grams. With the stocking rate of up to 150 kg per cubic meter of water, the output will range from 100 to 250 tons of fish per year; the company is planning to increase this indicator to 500 tons by 2025. This is a modern highly intensive farm that rears fish in the optimal environment and uses the experience of world leaders in the field of both cultivation technology and production of specialized equipment.

“If everything goes as planned, the first stage is scheduled for May 2021. The sales are to start by the end of the third quarter of 2021. The facility will reach its full capacity by 2022. According to preliminary estimates, investments in construction of the first stage will amount to 160 million rubles; and it is planned it is planned to create ten new jobs in 2021. Up to 30 workplaces will be created at the full launch of the farm. We are also working together with the Ulyanovsk State Agricultural Academy named after P.A. Stolypin to select graduates for work at the facility in 2021. With the launch of this farm, residents of the Ulyanovsk region will be able to purchase a fresh, high-quality and safe product at affordable prices. I would like to remind that the overall fish production in the region made 197 tons in 2020, which is 107% compared to the indicator in 2019,” - concluded Mikhail

Semenkin, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Agro-Industrial Complex and Rural Development of Ulyanovsk Region.

The Ulyanovsk region raises carp species (including grass and silver carps), trout, pike, clarium catfish, sturgeon and other types of fish. Ninety-six tons of product were sold to residents of the Ulyanovsk region in 2020.

“Currently, development of fish farming is a very promising sphere. Bogdashkino has very high-quality water that is great for fish breeding, so I decided to implement my project here. We have already employed a fish culturist who is undergoing training at the moment. Now we have three workers with the average salary of 25 thousand rubles,” - said Oksana Dudko, the initiator of the project.

According to Sergey Vasin, CEO of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, the project fits into the development concept of this rural settlement. It is interesting because it creates new jobs and uses modern technologies.

“The use of recirculating aquaculture systems guarantees environmental-friendly products. Today, the head of the region set us the task to create an industrial park for agricultural manufacturers here, in the village of Bogdashkino, Cherdaklinsky District. We will start developing the project in the near future. The future facility will specialize in various spheres, including milk processing and fish rearing. At its full production capacity, the company will become the largest trout growing enterprise in the Volga Federal District,” - said Sergey Vasin.
