Ulyanovsk Region Concludes Cooperation Agreement with Ministry of Sport

The document was signed by Governor Sergey Morozov and Oleg Matytsin (Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation) during a meeting thar took place in Moscow on 15 February.

“Our task is to bring as many citizens as possible to the active and healthy lifestyle, to create comfortable conditions for doing fitness and sports in all regions of our country”, said Oleg Matytsin. “Ulyanovsk region is our important partner in this sphere. Every year, the region carries out major events and implements projects in the field of popular sports. The Year of Children's Sports announced in the region is a very significant event that, of course, will attract attention of citizens to development of fitness and sport. It will also increase the number of children doing exercise, as well as create an accessible sports infrastructure, school playgrounds and stadiums.”

The parties discussed plans for further development of fitness and sport in the Ulyanovsk region. The Governor presented to the Head of the federal Ministry a plan of activities for the Year of Children's Sports in the region. Oleg Matytsin supported the idea of having a four-year cycle of thematic years in the Ulyanovsk region. Thus, 2022 will be the Year of Student Sports, 2023 will focus on corporate sports, and 2024 will be dedicated to the senior generation.

“I would like to thank Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, for a fruitful meeting that helped us sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of fitness and sport. With the support of the Ministry of Sport of Russia, we will get new opportunities for development of the regional sports infrastructure, which includes construction and reconstruction of facilities, as well as purchase of necessary equipment. Another important part is creating conditions for doing fitness and sport. The agreement will allow us to continue working on the tasks set by the President in the federal project "Sport as a norm of life" within the national project "Demography". At the end of 2020, 45.5% of the Ulyanovsk region's residents started doing sport regularly. The main target of the regional project is to increase this indicator to 55.5% by 2024. I have no doubt that we will be able to do it,” - said the head of the region.

According to the current document, the region and the federal department will cooperate in several spheres. Activities within the federal project "Sport as a norm of life" will be implemented as a priority. They aim to promote sport among all categories and groups of the population, to develop sports infrastructure of the Ulyanovsk region, to purchase specialized equipment for sport facilities, and to encourage people do sport and fitness regularly. Human resources management is another priority sphere for the region. In 2020, the Ulyanovsk region started developing the Sport in the Countryside programme, which supports coaches working in rural settlements. Ten people will be able to receive lump sum payments for the housing purchase this year.
