Ulyanovsk Region Opens New Laboratory and Manufacturing Complex of Ulyanovsk Scientific-Technological Center VIAM (USTC VIAM)
Acting Governor Aleksey Russkikh took part in the grand opening of the facility on 12 May.
“The scientific center has top-of-the-line equipment; it participates in the import substitution programme and actively works together with regional universities to train specialists. I sincerely hope that the high-tech goods made here will strengthen the Ulyanovsk region's position as one of the production leaders in our country,” said Aleksey Russkikh.
All repair, construction and fit-out works have been completed at the site; the laboratory and manufacturing complex, as well as the administration and on-site facilities have been built. The company has started making innovative products such as next generation polymer composite materials for aviation and other industries. The number of staff will be gradually increased.
“Our site in Ulyanovsk is among the most modern automated production facilities in the country, and it makes prepregs with high precision. The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the Government of Ulyanovsk Region. The new facility will be able to produce one million square meters of prepregs made of polymer composite materials per year,” said Olga Ospennikova, Deputy Director General of USTC VIAM.
According to Sergey Vasin, CEO of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, as part of the cluster the new enterprise will strengthen the region's competence in such a promising industry as composite material production and will be able to replace components imported from abroad. The project is implemented as part of the import substitution programme initiated by President Vladimir Putin.
