Ulyanovsk Region Presents Potential of Its Industrial Sites and Special Economic Zones to Investors

The Ulyanovsk region's delegation is working at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Among the first, negotiations were held with representatives of Almaz-Antey Concern, which subsidiary enterprises - JSC "Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant" and JSC "Research and Development Complex "Zavod Iskra" - are already working in the region. The concern's management thinks it is possible to increase the volumes and orders of commercial products made by Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant. The participants also considered future supplies of municipal vehicles and medical equipment made by the concern to the region.

“Additionally, we presented the potential of Ulyanovsk industrial parks and special economic zones to the management of Almaz-Antey, which was met with interest. In the coming month, representatives of the concern are coming to the Ulyanovsk region with a visit to examine the sites and to discuss specific conditions for production placement. The base we have laid for future cooperation today will help us develop such spheres as microelectronics and mechanical engineering to an even greater scale, as well as create new jobs,” commented Alexander Smekalin, Acting Chairman of the Government of Ulyanovsk Region.

Providing health facilities with high-precision medical equipment was also an important part of discussion with SberLeasing.

“Thanks to cooperation, we are planning to provide medical equipment to several hospitals in the Ulyanovsk region. In addition, we have discussed vehicle fleet renewal for passenger transport and upgrade of street lighting in Ulyanovsk and the Ulyanovsk region. Transport services provided to the population are still an important focus area for us. SberLeasing agreed to promote Ulyanovsk plant "Simaz" and to provide an installment plan for purchase of necessary equipment,” said Dmitry Vavilin, Acting Minister of Economic Development and Industry of Ulyanovsk Region.

On day zero, which is traditionally dedicated to development of small and medium-sized enterprises, representatives of the Ulyanovsk region development cluster visited venues that worked on regional planning and business participation in public-private partnership projects, as well as development of export and creative industries.

“Together with the expert community, we discussed our position regarding territorial design and development of industrial parks and businesses. Each new site is seen as a growth point for small and medium-sized enterprises, and sometimes it is not easy to design facilities with such vision. I suggested that related issues should

be reviewed by the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation,” explained Alexander Smekalin.

The Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation took part in a digital presentation of the strategy of the federal Small and Medium Business Corporation at the ВЭБ.РФ (WEB.RF) stand, which featured Andrey Belousov (First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation) and Igor Shuvalov (head of the bank). Sergey Vasin, Head of the Ulyanovsk Region Development Corporation, met with Ivan Fedotov, Director of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR), to discuss expansion of cooperation in innovative spheres of the economy. A cooperation agreement was also concluded with the leading business magazine "Russian Business Guide" so as to promote social, economic and innovative potential of the Ulyanovsk region.

The main day will focus on work of federal authorities' representatives at the venues of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Ulyanovsk region is planning to participate in negotiations and panel sessions with the ministries of construction, housing and public utilities, science and education, and economic development. Several initiatives have been prepared and will be discussed with representatives of ministries and departments. Participants will also traditionally continue a series of negotiations with potential partners at the forum's venues.
