Aleksey Russkikh and Representatives from the People's Republic of China Discuss Cooperation Development in Tourism

On 21 December, the head of the region addressed an online conference called "Support for domestic tourism during the pandemic".

The event was attended by representatives from several Russian regions, Chinese provinces and twin cities.

“Red Route is one of the main and most interesting projects that has brought our cooperation to the new level. Thanks to its popularity and relevance, we now have some major opportunities. I am talking about international flights between Ulyanovsk and Chinese provinces, as well as the ability to expand the range of tourist products under this brand. We are ready to move to a whole new level in our relations with China in the field of tourism and hope for productive cooperation in the future,” the Governor emphasized.

The Red Route project is a successful example of interactions between the Ulyanovsk region and the People's Republic of China. It is so special thanks to the unique logistics as tourist groups move from Moscow to Ulyanovsk and then to St. Petersburg. The region also has a programme called "China Friendly", which is based on the agreement signed between the Government of Ulyanovsk Region and the Nonprofit Partnership "World Without Borders". The programme aims to create comfortable conditions for Chinese tourists. Today, it includes ten companies working in the field of regional tourism and hospitality. Participants received the quality mark and conformity certificates.

According to Denis Ilyin, Director of Ulyanovsk Region Tourism Agency, during implementation of the Red Route project, Ulyanovsk was visited by about 2,000 Chinese tourists with groups and about 5,000 as individuals. Before the pandemic, the region also saw annual increase in the tourist flow from China - from 20% to 30%.
