Largest Russian Ice Palace Volga -Sport Arena opened in Ulyanovsk

The opening ceremony took place on April 1st. It was attended by the deputy of the State Duma Vladislav Tretiak, the deputy of the State Duma and vice president of the Federation of Russian bandy Nikolay Valuev, deputy of the State Duma Vadim Harlov, President of the International and Russian Bandy Federation Boris Skrynnik, Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov.

 "The opening of this ice palace - is a high day for all those engaged in bandy, but not only for the Ulyanovsk region. This will solve many of the problems of hilding the Cup of Russia, and the national hockey championship. This will also give some impetus to raise new players for the national team. I think that the Ulyanovsk bandy team Volga will strive to take a high position in the championship of Russia", - said Boris Skrynnik.

Recall, the construction of a sports complex for five thousand seats and with a playing ground of 100x60 meters started in June 2012. Total 1 billion 864 million rubles was spent on its construction.

According to the specialists of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ulyanovsk region, currently the country has three similar sport facilities: in Krylatskoye, in Kemerovo and in Khabarovsk. According to experts, the new Ice Palace Volga -Sport Arena provides modern conditions for training of the Russian national team.

"I am grateful to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and to State Duma deputy from the Ulyanovsk region Vladislav Tretiak, to the leadership of the Bandy Federation for supporting the Ulyanovsk region in the implementation of such a large-scale project", - said Sergey Morozov at the opening ceremony.

The Governor also said that the Ice Palace will be a part of the sports cluster which is being constructed in the neighborhood. "It will be a combined sports palace. In the near future we will spend about 100 million rubles for the purchase of special equipment that will transform the ice cover in basketball or football fields, tennis hall, gymnastics hall to host international competitions here. In addition, this year it is planned to begin designing a large half-closed modern stadium for football and athletics for ten thousand seats. Near the palace we will place a gymnastics hall. Here we will also build a large eight storied hotel and ice rink for ice hockey,"- said Sergey Morozov.

According to Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Kuzmin, the opening of one of the best in the country specialized sports Bandy centers will promote regional mass sport, professional sport, as well as promote regular physical training among the population, because there will be held not only bandy and figure skating competitions and training process, but also public skating. It is planned that in June 2014 the Ice Palace Volga -Sport -Arena will host the first All-Russian festival of national sports, one of which is Russian hockey.

"Our region has frequently hosted international Bandy competitions. The construction of a largest Russian sports facility - is one of the stages of preparation for the 2016 World Bandy Cup to be held in the Ulyanovsk region"- said Sergey Kuzmin.

"World Bandy Cup, which will be held at the Ulyanovsk region is followed by a huge amount of good deeds. This means, above all, the sports infrastructure. In anticipation of the event we will repair the roads, hotels, facades of buildings. Two stadiums in Dimitrovgrad will be also modernized. Money has been also allocated for the reconstruction of the open-air stadium "Trud". This will also expand the opportunities for Russian hockey - said Nikolai Valuev. - After opening the Ice Palace the Ulyanovsk region will have a new "temple of sport " - a huge, ultra-modern facility, which will fit not only for winter sports, but also for summer sports."
