Ulyanovsk region and Taiwan to develop cooperation in the sphere of culture

The Director of Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission Nicholas Xu, the Advisor to the Head of the Department Xu Kuan Huai, as well as a group of students from the National Taiwan University have visited the region.

According to the Acting Minister of Art and Cultural Policy Tatyana Ivshina, the brilliant performance of the Ulyanovsk variety ballet "Exciton" at the International Folklore and Folkgame Festival in Taiwan last August became the reason for the visit. At the invitation of the Government, the group was the only one to represent Russia at this large-scale creative event.

"The festival was available to the general public and its aim was to show traditional culture from around the world, as well as integration and friendship of peoples. About 50 countries, such as Mexico, the USA, Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, Finland, South Korea, Russia and others, participated in the most prestigious folklore forum of East Asia. After 20 days in Taiwan, our "Exciton" gave more than 25 concerts, including the one on the stage of the famous Yilan's National Arts Theater. It was important not only to demonstrate our acting skills but also to show our country's culture through various dances, music, games, rites, and folk crafts, - the leader of the group Elena Bartkaytis said. - Skills of the Ulyanovsk dancers and their keen interest in national traditions impressed the host party so much that representatives of Taiwan came to the Ulyanovsk region on a return visit".

The meeting with members of the Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission took place at Children School of Arts № 8. During it agreements on further cooperation with the regional Ministry of Art and Cultural Policy were reached.

"We have supported the initiative under which one of Taiwanese national groups will go on a tour to the Ulyanovsk region in 2017. The Ulyanovsk State Folk Orchestra will also visit our partners. In addition, we have also decided to carry out Days of Taiwanese Culture in the region in June 2017, which will include a range of art exhibitions and thematic screenings", - Tatyana Ivshina said.

We would like to remind that last September, after the victory of the on-stage performance group "Exciton" in the XV Youth Delphic Games (Russia) the head of the region Sergey Morozov ordered to create on its base a State Institution of Culture "The Variety Ballet Exciton" with effect from 1 January 2017. The Governor required to increase the number employees and to find a new place for rehearsals and performances of the group.
