Relations between the Ulyanovsk region and the Republic of Azerbaijan to become stronger

The Governor Sergey Morozov and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Russia Polad Bulbuloglu carried out negotiations in Moscow on 12 January.

 The Governor noted that the Ulyanovsk region has strong business and cultural relations with Azerbaijan.

Streets of the regional capital are named after prominent people who represent the Republic of Azerbaijan such as Nariman Narimanov Avenue, Heydar Aliyev Square. Well-known cultural and political figures are immortalized in monuments. For example, the monument to Heydar Aliyev was installed in Zasviyazhye and a school in Ulyanovsk was named after him. Forty years ago, on 13 January 1977, a garden of Azerbaijan was built in the Peoples' Friendship Park.

"I am very pleased that the Ulyanovsk region and Azerbaijan share good and friendly relations and I am sure that we should improve them in all spheres, including the economy. We export cars, automotive components, products for the oil and gas industry, furniture, food and many other things to Azerbaijan. And today, thanks to the current tendencies, we are planning to develop relations in science, sport and culture", - Sergey Morozov emphasized.

Polad Bulbuloglu offered the Governor to organize in Azerbaijan a presentation of the Ulyanovsk region's export and investment potential. "By strengthening humanitarian cooperation, we will be able to preserve our rich cultural heritage. And development of investment and trade-related connections will provide both parties with an obvious economic benefit", - the head of the region said.

The parties also agreed to establish relations with Azerbaijan museums  keeping the history of revolutionary events, which took place of a century ago. The Ambassador accepted an invitation of the Governor to become an honored guest of important international events, which will take place in Ulyanovsk in May, August and September 2017. These include the V. M. Leontieva International Film Festival, the International Festival of National Sports of CIS countries and the International Cultural Forum.

Sergey Morozov asked the Department of Foreign Affairs of Governor Administration and the Government of the Ulyanovsk region to establish a working group on development of cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as to develop a joint action plan for 2017-2021. Ekaterina Smoroda has been entrusted with coordinating the activities.

It was also decided to strengthen links with Azerbaijan at the federal level. So, during the last breefing, which took place on 12 December, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova expressed confidence in fruitful cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan. "We have a lot of issues in political, economic and humanitarian spheres which were identified in the past and should be solved in the future", - Zakharova said.

It is planned that the delegation of the Ulyanovsk region will participate in the Fourth International Forum "Cross-Cultural Dialogue", which will take place in Baku in May 2017. The region will also take part in one of the largest international economic events of 2017 - the Oil and Gas Forum and Exhibition.
