Ulyanovsk region to develop cooperation with Sweden in the sphere of high technologies

On 4 February, the Governor Sergey Morozov held negotiations with the Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Sweden Alexander Katasov and representatives of the embassy. The parties discussed the possibility to attract investment to the region, as well as to develop trade and economic relations between the Ulyanovsk region and Sweden.

 "Both Sweden and the Ulyanovsk region lack natural resources and relay on "smart economy" and human potential in terms of development. Sweden, a  territory of the advancing development, is also looking for talents and cares about education and development of high technologies. Our Swedish partners certainly have a lot of positive experience in these spheres, which will be very useful to the Ulyanovsk region. We are really interested in development of cooperation with the Kingdom of Sweden. First of all, of course, in localization of Swedish companies in our territory, including the largest investors who have plans regarding development and localization in Russia", - the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov emphasized.

According to the head of the region, technological cooperation in the field of household waste recycling, as well as implementation of modern, "smart" and energy efficient technologies to improve the quality of human life, are among the most promising areas of work.

"In Sweden there is very good example of the plant constructed on the basis of a former coal CHPP (Central Heating and Power Plant). It allows to utilize household waste, to produce electricity and heat. At the same time, environmental safety is at a very high level and all combustion products are processed during construction operations. We enterprise is ready to cooperate with us", - reported Alexander Katasov, the Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Sweden.

During the trip to Sweden, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov visited Kista Science City, a science and technology park of information and communication technologies. It is an engineering hub and an educational center where 1100 large companies and more than 300 small ones are located, among which are Ericsson, Nokia, Microsoft, IBM. The following topics became the subject of discussion: Swedish experience on creation of an ecosystem for development of companies, world technological leaders; possible formats of expert support of the regional priority projects "Technocampus 2.0" and "Smart Region"; involvement of Swedish scientists and entrepreneurs into implementation of joint projects. "We have lots of examples of how we are trying to encourage the spirit of innovations and partnership. We will be most pleased to share this experience with the Ulyanovsk region", - the Deputy Director of Kista Science City Marco Giertz noted.

The Ulyanovsk delegation, in turn, presented a catalogue of projects "Technocampus 2.0", "Technology Valley" and "Santor".

In addition, the Governor Sergey Morozov described the Innovative cluster operating in the territory of the Ulyanovsk region. Experience of Sweden can be useful for its development. Swedish partners highly praised experience of the region and expressed their readiness for cooperation.
