Mao Zedong's grandson Cao Yunshan visited the Ulyanovsk region in the Year of the 100th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution
He met the Governor Sergey Morozov and the management of the Lenin memorial.
“We all know from childhood that Ulyanovsk is the homeland of Lenin. I think everyone dreamed to visit this place because the history of the Soviet Union and Vladimir Ilyich is very important to us. Having visited Ulyanovsk museums, we saw the life-story of Vladimir Lenin and his family, his development as a person who changed the whole world. Mao Zedong said that the Chinese Communist Revolution resulted from the Russian October Revolution. And we are grateful to the Soviet Union and Russia for how well China is developing now. I am very glad to be here today. You have a very beautiful city, intelligent people, rich cultural heritage. Chinese people love Russian nature and they respect Vladimir Lenin. Special attention is paid to cruises along the Volga River. I am sure that your project "Red Route" has a great potential”, - Cao Yunshan noted.
The delegation was headed by Cao Yunshan, the Chairman of Red Memories Association, a researcher of Mao Zedong's museum in Shan Shao and a grandson of Mao Zedong's brother. The Deputy Secretary General of Red Memories Association Tang Shuanghe and the Chairman of the Moscow Center of Chinese-Russian Cultural Relations Li Zonglun also took part in the event. The guests of honor got acquainted with the expositions of Ulyanovsk museums connected with the leader of revolution Vladimir Lenin.
According to the Governor Sergey Morozov, close cooperation, which is supported by the governments of Russia and the People's Republic of China, has been developing between two countries for several years. This work will be continued in the Ulyanovsk region. “We are very happy that such important and prominent guests came to Ulyanovsk. We expect to discuss our plans for the "Red route" with the colleagues, which is undoubtedly very important in terms of attracting more residents of the People's Republic of China. We also think that it will provide an impetus for our economic relations. We have a lot of things to be proud of: we have a great number of large joint investment projects with Chinese companies in the field of nuclear energy and nuclear power, as well as in the spheres of automotive industry and high technologies. And we are building a wind power park together with Chinese partners. At the same time, we are looking forward to strengthen our relations because Chinese economy shows good results – a 6-6.5% growth rate. It is of paramount importance to us that a large number of tourists come to the region from the People's Republic of China so that they could get acquainted not only with Lenin's history but also the one of the Soviet Union. I am sure that this will also draw attention of Russian citizens because we must know the history of our country”, - the head of the region emphasized.
According to the Acting Minister of Art and Cultural Policy Marina Mikheyeva, the visit of Chinese guests to the Ulyanovsk region took place within the tour across the cities of Russia that is included in the Red Route project. “The Chinese delegation has already visited Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg and now Ulyanovsk. These cities are a part of the grand tour and played an important role in Vladimir Lenin's biography. I would like to remind that implementation of this project raises public awareness regarding the world's largest museum collection dedicated to the personality and activities of our revolutionary compatriot. This will also help to maintain high profile of the Russian culture abroad and to develop international cooperation in the sphere of culture and tourism”, - the Minister explained.
“As a result of the Chinese guests' visit to the Ulyanovsk region, during which they saw cultural, historical and tourist capacity of the region first hand, we can expect future potential of cooperation in different spheres”, - emphasized Sharpudin Hautiyev, the Head of Department for Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Governor Administration.
At the end of the event, representatives of the Chinese side were invited to participate in activities dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution and which will take place in the Ulyanovsk region in October.
