Head coach of the Russian National Biathlon Team highly praised development of this sport in the Ulyanovsk region

Alexander Kasperovich arrived in the region for a one-day working visit. The mentor of the national team inspected the biathlon base "Zarya-ULGU" where the youth national team intends to train in summer.

The Russian Youth National Biathlon Team organized training camps in the Ulyanovsk region in 2015 and 2016. Then it successfully participated in international competitions. In addition, the leader of the regional biathlon team Yury Shopin was included in the Russian National Team, which will train for the winter Olympic Games that they will take place in South Korea in 2018.

“The fact that we have a representative in the Russian National Olympic Team shows high level of biathlon development in the region. It would be impossible without assistance from the authorities and personal support from the Governor Sergey Morozov. It is obvious that in the Ulyanovsk region particularly much attention is given to development of infrastructure. We have upgraded the biathlon complex "Zarya-ULGU", created the regional school of biathlon, which employs the best coaches. Thanks to these efforts our sport has become the national one”, - Alexander Kasperovich emphasized.

The head coach of the Russian National Team has also highly praised abilities of the coaching staff of the regional biathlon school and has confirmed that the Russian Biathlon Union will continue cooperation with the resident of Ulyanovsk Igor Okhotnikov, who became one of the trainers of the youthful national team.

“Fruitful work of the coaching staff would not have been possible without modern infrastructure. The biathlon center "Zarya-ULGU" has already helped to develop Russian sport for several years. At the same time, we have developed an improvement plan for this facility. We are also planning to  increase the length of the ski track, to change its surface to meet the standards of athletes training for the Olympic team, as well as to build a rowing base on the bank of the Volga River, which will allow biathlonists to perform general physical training” - noted Sergey Kuzmin, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ulyanovsk region.
