Towers and blades for the future wind farm to be delivered to the Ulyanovsk region
The next batch of equipment manufactured by the Chinese company "Donfang" was shipped to the port on the left bank of the Volga River.
Construction of the wind farm in the Ulyanovsk region is carried in collaboration with RUSNANO and partners from Asia and Europe. The international company "Fortum" acts as the investor. It is planned to launch the first stage of the project in the second half of 2017.
According to the Governor Sergey Morozov, construction of the country's first wind farm is one of the components to create a region with a highly-efficient economy. “There are no rich deposits of natural resources in our region, that is why our main development tool is intelligence. We made a decision to open a new department "Wind Energy Technology" on the basis of our Ulyanovsk State Technical University. This will train professionals in the sphere of alternative power engineering. Admission of candidates will begin in the new academic year. Implementation of this project will attract about 5 billion rubles of investments into the Ulyanovsk region and will allow to create more than one thousand new jobs for highly skilled specialists,” - the head of the region noted.
According to the personnel of Fortum, currently they are building infrastructure for the construction site and install equipment at 14 wind generators. It is planned to deliver all equipment until the end of May.
“But it is only the first stage of the project. Today we are exploring the possibility to install wind generators on three more platforms in the region. In addition, we set the task to localize production of components for wind power generation. Even now we have a number of companies that participate in this project and integrate themselves in this chain. These include Legrand, which manufactures low-voltage units, and Hempel, which makes specialised corrosion resistant coatings. Our plant "AeroKompozit" will act as the platform for localization of blades production, which will be carried out in collaboration with RUSNANO”, - said Alexander Smekalin, the Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region.
According to the experts, establishing localized productions of components for wind generators in partnership with the leading global manufacturers will allow the Ulyanovsk region to experience active growth in such spheres as composite productions, power electronics, metalworking industry and production of power machines.
As a reference:
Dongfang Electric Corporation manufactures blades and towers. The length of one blade is 53.8m and it weighs 12.5 tons. The blades are made of fiber reinforced polyester. The RIM technology (ram injection molding) is used. In total, 42 blades will be delivered (3 for each wind driven generator).
Dongfang Electric Wind Company Limited is a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) and it is among the five largest manufacturers of wind power equipment in China. OAO "Fortum" won the tender for supply of equipment for the wind farm in Ulyanovsk.
Deliveries of equipment started in 25 April 2017. It is planned to complete shipping of goods to the port by 30 May 2017.
