Ulyanovsk region to join the All-Russian event "Hour of Code"
Themed events within the International Week of Computer Science and the Day of Computer Science will take place until 10 December.
The event will start at 14:00 on 4 December and will take place in the main university (40, Sviyaga River Embankment St., second building, room 40). Pupils, students, volunteers, IT teachers, heads of "code classes" and representatives of Ulyanovsk IT companies will take part in it. Results of the competition among pupils on development of a computer game will be summarized here, and the best heads of "code classes" will be awarded.
Activities of the Hour of Code event will take place at the premises of educational institutions of the region. Themed IT courses will be organized for pupils, where they will get the chance to learn how to code with the use of a special training simulator. It is planned that approximately 40 thousand pupils will participate in the event.
“The purpose of this event is to show that nowadays every person must know how to use various computer programmes. Such skills will help to study, to release one's potential and to understand many sciences. It is important to involve children in computer sciences and information technologies from the early age, to show pupils IT-profession that are in demand at the labor market. The sphere of information technologies requires over one thousand relevant professionals”, - emphasized Svetlana Openysheva, the Head of the regional state public institution "Government for Citizens".
The Hour of Code event and the code class project are implemented in the region with assistance of the Information Technology Development Fund.
ULSU Center of Internet Education controls work of code classes and work to introduce children to the IT environment. A training center of the All-Russian project "Your Course: IT for Youth" has been created on its basis.
“Such clubs for schoolchildren develop interest in programming and computer science. We have already opened 40 "code classes" in our region on the basis of Ulyanovsk and regional schools. There are attended by about 400 children. Here pupils of all ages learn how to work on the Internet, assemble robots, and learn to design computer games, as well as help their parents to master modern computer technologies. We also hold various festivals where children can meet each other and demonstrate their projects”, - said Alla Kostishko, the head of the Center and the project coordinator.
According to the Minister of Education and Science of the Ulyanovsk region Natalya Semyonova, regional schools carry out systematic activities to teach children about digital literacy and information security.
