Commencement of flights through Ulyanovsk Airport is planned for the first quarter of 2018

Now reconstruction of the runway is coming to the end.

Over the last two years, a lot of work has been carried out in the territory of the aerodrome complex. This includes laying asphalt pavements along the whole runway, construction of the ramp and parking places for air vehicles, as well as installation of lighting facilities. Construction of the new traffic control office is coming to the end; installation of meteorological and         radio flight support equipment has been completed.

Within the State Council on transport, which took place in Ulyanovsk last autumn, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin noted the urgent need to create transport infrastructure of high quality. “We need to create modern, convenient infrastructure and remove bottlenecks that have existed for decades ‒ as we did by completing major bridge crossings and bridges, the construction of which was started back in the Soviet era and then was stopped and abandoned. We completed 22 bridges; one of them is here in Ulyanovsk”, - the head of the state emphasized.

According to the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov, 10 billion rubles were allocated for creation of high-quality transport communication in 2017. “We have repaired not only regional roads but also interdistrict and municipal ones. We have also carried out reconstruction of bottlenecks and created good access ways to our major project, the Federal High-Technology Center of Nuclear Medicine. We are completing full reconstruction of the airport”, - he explained.

Reconstruction of the runway is one of the development stages of the aviation cluster in the Ulyanovsk region. The Aviation Capital of Russia project was successfully launched in 2010, within which reconstruction of the air terminal building was carried out in the Airport "Ulyanovsk" (named after N. M. Karamzin). In total, the Government of the Ulyanovsk region invested approximately 500 million rubles in project implementation from 2010 to 2015. Appearance of the Karamzin Airport's building has been changed, the latest equipment for      security control, acceptance of luggage and the Arrival and Departure Information System has been installed. Convenient waiting rooms, modern terminals and a cafe has been built up. After reconstruction, the airport has become a modern and technological facility, which features allowed to create comfortable and safe conditions for service of passengers.

“In order to ensure further development of the international air traffic and foreign economic relations of the Ulyanovsk region in 2018, after opening the Karamzin Airport as an international one it is planned to organize international flights between the Ulyanovsk region and such countries as Germany, France, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Greece. A large number of foreign companies working at the territory of the region are in great need of these routes. So, flights en-route Ulyanovsk - China will provide increased interest of the population of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China to the destinations within the Red Route project. We are currently discussing this issue with airlines”, - noted Andrey Tyurin, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region.

Russian airport border crossing checkpoints will be fully equipped in April 2018. Today works on transfer and installation of the baggage way have already been completed; equipment for the customs post and technical means of customs control have been shipped; system of specialized communication and passport control booths have been installed. Installation and debugging of the service equipment for the Russian Federal Border Service is underway. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Federal Air Transport Agency are implementing these activities under the Russian Transport System Development programme.
