On 12 March, the Governor Sergey Morozov is to participate in a meeting of the Advisory Council for Development of Biotechnologies, Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry. It will be carried out in Dimitrovgrad by the vice-chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of Russia on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship Vladimir Gutenyov.

The list of participants will also include Vladimir Uyba (Director of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency), Sergey Tsyb (Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation), Igor Korobko (Director of the Department of Science, Innovation Development and Management of Biomedical Health Risks at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation), and Andrey Kaprin (Director General of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical Research Radiological Center” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; MD, PhD, Professor). Representatives of the P.A. Hertzen Moscow Cancer Research Institute, the Interdepartmental Scientific Council on radiochemistry of RAS, and the Russian Research Center for Radiology and Surgical Technologies named after Academician A.M. Granov will also act as experts during this discussion.

“Dimitrovgrad is a unique territory with significant scientific, economic and cultural potential. We can see successful implementation of the ambitious task set by the Governor Sergey Morozov - to make Dimitrovgrad Nuclear Innovation Cluster the main research site for both the Ulyanovsk region and Russia in general. We were able to develop cooperation between such enterprises as FMBA, which is the leader in the sphere of nuclear technology and modern medicine, and RIAR (Research Institute of Atomic Reactors). Today several projects related to production of radiopharmaceuticals are already in place here. In addition, we have developed and are now implementing a comprehensive programme for creation of engineering, social and urban infrastructure that will make cities attractive and comfortable places to live in”, - said Alexander Smekalin, the Prime Minister of the Ulyanovsk region.

The Nuclear Innovation Cluster was created in the region in 2010. According to Rustem Davlyatshin, the Minister of Economic Development and Competition of the Ulyanovsk region, one of its anchor projects is research in the field of radiopharmaceuticals. For example, a research and technology center of personalized nuclear medicine was opened in January 2018. The primary field of work of two laboratory facilities is development and synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals, as well as their pre-clinical trials. In addition, it is planned to establish two more laboratories for research of these medicinal products’ clinical use. They will be located in the Ulyanovsk regional oncological clinic and in the Federal High-Technology Center of Nuclear Medicine of FMBA in Dimitrovgrad.
