Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant Celebrates 80th Anniversary

Aleksey Russkikh congratulated employees of one of the region's largest enterprises on this memorable occasion.

He said, “Dear veterans and employees of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, I congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of your legendary enterprise. Your products are known far beyond Russia, and there is not a single continent where UAZ tires have not left their trace. Your vehicles have no competitors around the world in terms of reliability and cross-country performance. I wish staff of the plant prosperity and all the best in the future.”

The head of the region awarded fourteen UAZ employees with the Medal of "Honor for Labor Valour". Eleven plant workers received Certificates of Merit and Letters of Thanks from the Legislative Assembly of Ulyanovsk Region. Sixteen people got UAZ Golden Sign, a newly established award.

According to Adil Shirinov, Director General of UAZ LLC, unique employees and equipment, as well as a desire to win and achieve great things, were at the basis of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant in 1941. The enterprise's history was written by many generations of automobile manufacturers and continues to this day. UAZ cars change according to trends and receive new properties. The staff completes orders from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Vehicles are sent to hospitals, schools, law enforcement authorities, wildlife protection agencies, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM).

Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant was founded in November 1941 by the decision of the USSR State Defense Committee on evacuation of Moscow Automobile Plant named after I.V. Stalin (ZIS).

The enterprise specializes in production of four-wheel drives and commercial vehicles, as well as minibuses under the UAZ trademark. It has manufactured more than five million cars since 1941.

The plant has been part of SOLLERS Group since 2000.

Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant received the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, as well as the Golden Globe and Golden Mercury Awards. It also got three grand prix in the Best Pickup Truck of the Year nomination at the Moscow International Automobile Salon (MIAS). UAZ-29092 Combi received grand prix in the Best Van nomination at the International Motor Show in 2005.

Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has about seven thousand employees. The enterprise includes pressing, welding, painting, and assembly complexes, facilities

for production of tools and automotive components, as well as a number of auxiliary units and subsidiaries.

Today, the plant manufactures more than ten models of UAZ and about one hundred modifications based on them: UAZ Patriot, UAZ Profi, UAZ Pickup, UAZ Hunter, classic commercial vehicles, and special cars for the needs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense (including class-C ambulances). The whole model range is available for export too.
