Ulyanovsk State University Wins Federal Competition within Priority 2030 Programme
The university will receive a grant for implementation of the development strategy as part of the academic leadership programme.
This program aims to improve Russia's competitive performance in the field of education, science and technology. Out of 409 strategic projects, the commission selected 106 universities from 49 cities of the Russian Federation.
The new strategy for university development was designed with regional priorities in mind. A coordination board, which is headed by Aleksey Russkikh, was created for its implementation.
"It is obvious that successful development of the university is very important for the Ulyanovsk region as it helps a lot in solving major regional problems. We have supported the main steps described in the programme and will develop mechanism of cooperation in the future. Currently, specialists from the university have been sent to assist regional executive authorities, while representatives of the region’s government will oversee implementation of strategic projects," said Aleksey Russkikh.
As noted by Vladimir Kononov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, today enterprises are in need of talented young people. By participating in the programme, the university will be able to stop their exodus from the Ulyanovsk region.
“Our youth go to Samara, Kazan and other cities, and we must empower them to receive viable education in the region itself with social security and the possibility of further employment,” Vladimir Kononov emphasized.
During competitive admissions, the university's strategy was presented by Boris Kostishko, Rector of Ulyanovsk State University.
He said, “To become an influential player at the regional and national levels, the university must be able to respond to the challenges and limitations it encounters. We believe that our main goal is maximum integration into the regional agenda. Ulyanovsk residents must be actively involved in scientific, innovative, creative, and social activities. It is encouraging that our ideas are supported both in and outside the region.”
In addition, Ulyanovsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin will also take part in Priority 2030 Programme as part of two consortia. The university will be involved in implementation of strategies developed by Ulyanovsk State University and Saratov State Agrarian University named after N.I.Vavilov.
