Ulyanovsk Region to Increase Exports to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and China

Plans to promote products made by local manufacturers were announced at the meeting for integrated development of the region, which took place on 24 May.

Governor of Ulyanovsk Region Alexey Russkikh noted that searching for new sales markets was still an important task.

According to Marina Alekseeva, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ulyanovsk Region, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and China are the focus areas for export development today.

She explained, “In case with Vietnam, we have already launched a pilot project to bring products made by Ulyanovsk manufacturers to the main e-trading platforms such as Lazada, Tiki, Shopee. Large and medium-sized companies will sell their goods through WinMart (translator's note: previously known as VinMart) under distributor agreements. It is planned to promote agricultural products through the Russian pavilion managed by a partner in Vietnam. The list of priority goods has already been formed and includes food, snacks, souvenirs, and home decor. We also continue working on our partnership with China. The main commodity groups for export are grain, corn, powdered milk, whey, chicken, pork, mineral water, sunflower and colza oil, flour. We have reached an agreement with suppliers and traders on mutual interest in project implementation.”

According to the regional center "My Business", Ulyanovsk enterprises already export cars, automotive components, manufacturing equipment, furniture, finish hardware, heating equipment, and interior doors to the Republic of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan has a warehouse of customs-cleared goods for wholesale customers, as well as a shared trade and logistics center, which showcases products made by manufacturers of the Ulyanovsk region. It is expected that thanks to this project, the exports will double and about fifteen contracts worth at least $10 million will be signed by the end of 2022. There are also plans to create a similar shared infrastructure in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To support Ulyanovsk exporters, funds will be allocated from the regional budget to compensate part of logistics expenses connected with cargo transportation by aircraft, railway and motor transport.

From 23 to 29 May, the region holds a week dedicated to implementation of the International Cooperation and Export national project. A number of thematic events are planned for municipalities. For example, the second season of the regional educational project "Women in Business" starts in Dimitrovgrad on 25 May. At a special meeting, which will take place on the same day, federal and regional experts will tell Ulyanovsk businessmen about new support measures. On 26 May, several events will be held commemorating the Day of Russian Entrepreneurship. They will honor businessmen for their contribution to development of the region's economy, summarize results of the regional stage of the Exporter of the Year competition, open a show room of Ulyanovsk designers, and present the festival of entrepreneurial stories "True Story Fest". A procurement session with Auchan Retail will be held on 27 May. On 28-29 May, local artisans and creative entrepreneurs will present their products at the fair “My Fest”.
