Ulyanovsk Region Enters TOP 10 of Innovative Territories in Russia
The Federal Service for State Statistics (Rosstat) has published a rating of subjects of the Russian Federation by the innovative activity level.
According to the assessment, the Ulyanovsk region is once again among the five leading territories of the Volga Federal District. As far as the All-Russian rating is concerned, the region has almost doubled its results and was included in the top ten innovative subjects of the country.
The Ulyanovsk Region has been a member of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia (AIRR) since 2012. In order to develop the regional innovation system, one must create an infrastructure for innovative activities. Currently, this sphere includes production, technological, consulting, financial, personnel, information and sales components.
According to Rosstat, the Ulyanovsk region's level of innovative activity reached 17.4% in 2021 (the average is 16.7% for the Volga Federal District and 11.9% for the Russian Federation), which is 2.3% more than the year before. The level of technological innovation has increased by 1.9% since last year and amounted to 30.6% (the average is 16.7% for the Volga Federal District and 11.9% for the Russian Federation).
According to Nikolai Zontov, Minister of Economic Development and Industry of Ulyanovsk Region, the innovative infrastructure is systematically developed, allowing the region to improve its performance over the past five years and rise in the ranking from the thirty-third place to the top ten. Such high indicators have become possible largely due to the cluster approach used to address modernization and innovative development of the regional economy. Participants of the nuclear innovation cluster play a major role because they set the innovative vector for the region. “Thanks to implementation of projects, which include inter-cluster ones, we stimulate the demand for innovations and scientific research, as well as create conditions and prerequisites for sustainable research, development and production cooperation and innovative networks. In 2021 alone, members of the cluster invested more than 10 billion rubles and introduced projects worth more than 5 billion rubles,” said Nikolai Zontov.
