Ulyanovsk Region Continues Developing The Great Volga River Route Project

Its implementation within the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry" was discussed during the meeting for integrated development of the region, which took place on 15 November.

Governor Alexey Russkikh noted, “We will actively participate in The Great Volga River Route project. We need to develop traffic along the Volga to connect large cities such as Kazan, Ulyanovsk, Saransk and Samara. This project shows a lot of promise. Today, we will hold negotiations as part of the Public Transport Week in Moscow to discuss financing for the purchase of passenger river transport. We have made several trips along the nature trails this year. Once again, I ask the heads of municipalities to improve their territories. This includes creating recreation areas, as well as installing gazebos, benches and signs with QR codes. I think the whole Ulyanovsk region should receive such upgrades.”

According to Denis Ilyin, Director of the Ulyanovsk Region Agency for Tourism, a discussion on development of the interregional project "Great Volga River Route" will take place on 18 November. It will be headed by Sangadzhi Tarbaev, Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Tourism and Tourism Infrastructure Development. The topics will include the upcoming summer season and cruise planning within the project. The Ulyanovsk region is going to present several initiatives that will increase its tourist flow.

In line with the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry", the delegation of the Ulyanovsk Region took part in the international tourism forum Commonwealth Travel Hub in St. Petersburg, where it acted as a partner region. During the event, delegates presented tourism potential of their native land. Participants of the forum included representatives of relevant ministries and departments from Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Moldova.

Negotiations on cooperation were also held with heads of the Ministry of Economic Development of Novosibirsk Region and the Department for Development of Tourism and Hospitality Industry of Sverdlovsk Region. Denis Ilyin commented, “To organize and promote the tourist flow between our cities, and considering the existing direct routes from Ulyanovsk to Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg, we decided to hold presentations of the regions' tourism potential. Negotiations were also held with Irina Voronovich, Director of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, and Dastan Ryspekov, Chairman of the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Together with the republics, we will begin developing a marketing plan for mutual promotion.”

As part of the forum's business programme, Simbircity and Daily, which are the leading tour operators of the Ulyanovsk region, presented tours called "Gospoda pionery" and "Po sledam dinozavrov", as well as the National Tourist Trail "Dvoryanin na Volge" and others.
