Russia's First Women's Boxing Center to Be Built in Ulyanovsk Region

Governor Alexey Russkikh discussed the construction of this sports facility in Dimitrovgrad at a meeting with representatives of the Russian Boxing Federation on 22 November.

Alexey Russkikh said, “All sports are actively developing in the Ulyanovsk region. Women's boxing is one of the leaders in this sphere. We have athletes who not only the region, but the whole country is proud of. Creating a special center where training and boxing competitions among women will be held is an initiative of the sports community itself, and we will definitely support it. I want to thank our federal colleagues from the Boxing Federation for their attention to this topic. I am sure that this project will come to life thanks to our joint efforts and help to train many future champions in the Ulyanovsk region.”

A letter of intent to establish the Boxing Center was concluded in 2021 between the Women's Boxing Support and Development Fund "Nadezhda" and the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports of Ulyanovsk Region. This sports facility will be built at the expense of the investor with the support of the Boxing Federation of Russia. Currently, a land plot has been selected and the Centre has also been included in the state programme called "Development of Physical Education and Sports in the Ulyanovsk Region".

“We and the region's government have already agreed that this Center will be built in Dimitrovgrad. It is among the few places in the country where women can receive such support, and Ulyanovsk boxing school is famous for its traditions and results, of course. A lot of women of various weight categories and age groups who participate in all national teams are from the Ulyanovsk region. This visit will contribute to implementation of the project in the near future. The facility is a quick-erect one and will become a lodestone for training camps, competitions and skill improvement courses for coaches, as well as a growth point for local athletes. We can see that the region fully supports this initiative,” said Tatyana Kiriyenko, Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation.

Construction of the Women's Boxing Center is to be completed in 2024. Currently, training of the sports mastery and improvement group is carried out by seven coaches from the women's boxing department of the Olympic Reserve School of Boxing named after P.T. Lipatov.
